wow some intelligent posting gowin orn here. No probs with younger players rotating into the ones during the year will be good for them to get more ground time instead of spurts here n there in the ones.

Im sure as the year unfolds we'll see most if not all our draftees and young guns get a run in the ones, a good sign that TW has a steady eye on the big picture and not just trying to recieve an instant result :)

Agreed RD. This year a taste is all they need so they have some idea when they take the step up when the time comes. That approach has worked well for Essendon and Brisbane and I think its what you need to do if wanna create a dynasty not just a difference. The wait is well worth it I reckon.

Exactly. When they play well at Coburg and start to think that they have made it, put them in the ones for a taste of how fast and physical it all is. Let them make mistakes, and then send them back to Coburg with an idea of how much improving they need and what they need to work on.

Chris Hyde is a great example. He was getting the ball at Coburg but his kicking was rubbish. At that level it doesn't really matter, not too many guys down there that can punish you. A bad kick is more likely to result in a ball-up than a goal against you. Put him in the seniors for a taste in 2003 and he quickly learnt why his coaches were telling him to improve his kicking. Back to Coburg to work on it. 2004 comes a long and he is a lot more careful about hitting targets and can hold his place in the seniors as a result.

Hopefully Daniel Jackson is learning the same sort of lesson at the moment. His kicking is good enough for Coburg but has to get better if he wants to play at Richmond. Same with Hartigan.

Good post Weaver.I agree entirely.I'm all for kids being played in the firsts, just not run into the ground like we did with Rodan and Krak.I wouldn't be suprised if at least one of Tambling and Meyer are dropped next week in favour of Gilmour and or Jacko.

It's great to have a few young blokes putting pressure on from below. We still have Hartigan and Hyde to return. Also Schulz was playing well before he reinjured his ankle.Looking forward to seeing the 'Burgs tommorrow.

It has been mentioned on other threads in the past, but in terms of how much apprenticeship is required, I was astounded when my Hawthorn following mates informed me how much time their gun side of the 80's spent in the magoos. Granted times have changed, but the theory is still the same. At the end of the day, it is still a professional sport played by men. Kids will make mistakes, and although they will learn from it, it does them no harm learning the caper in the two's. I enjoy the though of having these young cubs gaining experience and improving in the two's, only to be unleashed and run amok at the 'G come September in future years to come.
