what is lyon doing :S dropping c gardiner, jones

why not fiora and r clarke

Jeez, Jonesy's unlucky. Thought he did well, specially that mark he took! Thought Lyon would play him most games tbh.

Fiora and Raph better show something, or they're gone.

Gehrig to kick 10.

Totally agree...Charlie provides great leading up the ground and Jones showed his commitment, pace and skill last week....hope it doesn't dent him.

Maybe Jones IS slightly dented & just needed the week to get straightened out.

IMO Geary should've been dropped, he lost his concentration once, don't you reckon north of the river

:D

Charlie still your messiah, RE?

Well done ... right on cue! Expect you back here promoptly anytime anything happens re: CG. You must be so glad.

Well, I've got to say I'm surprised. No surprise with the inclusions of Gehrig and Blake but Jones and Gardiner dropped?

Perhaps Lyon is of the belief that a forward line of Gehrig, Riewoldt, Koschitzke and Gardiner is too top heavy.

Jones was stiff. I did think he may have to be sacrificed along with Fiora to allow the other two to return. The pressure is definitely on Fiora to perform this week, especially with the likely return of Goddard against the Bulldogs.

He won't be doing it again.

There are people who struggle with the concepts of having a main board and team specific boards.

I have no idea what Firoa is doing in there still. C Jones was average last week, despite his amazing mark. In fact right there you have the difference between him and Fiora highlighted perfectly. Heart vs hype. I am yet to see Fiora deliver with his supposed fantastic left foot. Perhaps Jones for Fiora?

C Gardiner is unlucky but it was inevitable on team balance. Let's hope this forward structure works well for us and we are not too immobile. I could not see C Gardiner fitting in if the G-Train and co are all fit. Although it would be nice to see Roo play closer to goal. On last week's effort by Roo, did anybody else think his kicking short to one on one contests could have been costly in the last quarter? I am not questioning his hear or influence on the game by the way.

And let's hope Schinder remember he is playing for the Saints this week!

:confused:How does raph clarke get a game, and jones doesnt.

I think at the respective times in their careers, R Clarke is the more flexible footballer. Jones seems a bit of a one trick pony at the moment in that he is in the team purely for speed. I think he could develop into a good player, but he is not quite there yet.

Thats a joke, what has Aaron "Fiona" done to deserve his place in the side.

Ditto for Raph

Yeah why?
Why did he drop charlie ...
I have him in Supercoach
Is he likely to return?
Or would he have to wait for injury to strike?

That depends on our structure going into the forward 50. CG's benefit to the team in leading up the middle to allow Reiwoldt closer to goal. With the gtrain and Kosi in there already, is it worth have Roo in there as well?

We should find out this week what RL's intentions are. It is a good and unfamiliar situation for Saints fans to find themselves in, wondering how we fit player in, rather than covering for them.

Me, I have gone for Josh Kennedy instead of C Gardiner, for what that is worth.

I'd say Clint was being given a day off because of that high knock he received (in that courageous mark).

It could be a deliberate decision rather than pull someone else away from Casey who then may not play.

Seems like Ross Lyon rates Blake in our best 22.
That really annoys me, I'd rather see Jones or another youngster get a run looking more towards the years ahead and giving these boys confidence.

It's Carlton as well, it's not like we're up against a very good forwardline so that Blake needs to help down back.

I dont understand how Blake and Raph are in. Prone to make errors.

Dont like that Charlie gets dropped but with him in our forward line is a bit top heavy so thats fair enough.

Jones is a great tackler, great player bar skills. I'd like to see him in next week.

Confused also as to why Fiora hasnt been ditched, poor poor form lately, hope he turns it around.

It seems that each player has a role to play.
Some of the roles might not be readily seen by the fans. Some players are learning (Geary), some are improving their fitness (Ball), some play a defensive or negating role, somewhere in there is a spot for Blake. He is a middle height, middling speed, athletic player. His greatest assets are his fitness and his adaptability. He does nothing really well, but he does most things reasonably well - making him the ideal utility. He can ruck, rove, play key position or tag an opponent out of the match. He can do all of these things reasonably well. So when you need to pick a team and have a replacement on the bench for each facet of your team, someone who can fill every role reasonably well is quite attractive. This may allow the other members of the bench to be more role specific - specialists.

That would be because he is in our best 22.

Blake is the ultimate spare parts player ... can play CHB, HFF, HBF, ruck, midfield run with. Certainly not a master of any of those positions, but adequate. He's the injury insurance player. He can play lead up forward like CG, but offer more in versatility.

Was thinking similar last night, Blake (even though he makes me want to tear my hair out sometimes) can play in various roles., so can understand why he's been named.
For me though, thought Jones did enough last week (certainly more than Fiora) to warrant a spot. Unless other factors are coming into play (heavy knock, rotation, whatever...), would like to see Jones back next week.

Ok so i understand why Blake is in. Not that i'm happy with it. But you cannot honestly tell me that he is not the master of anything but is adequate in most. This statement I cannot agree with less. The bloke is a goober, he sucks. Thats puting it as nice as I can. He can take the occasional mark and has good athleticism for his size. Thats his best attributes. On teh negative side he has ZERO awareness of whats happening, he doesnt understand the game and has TERRIBLE SKILLS.. the bloke cant kick accurately!! .. now he always seems to get open on the wings and get easy uncontested possessions there and we think that its cos he is athletic and runs off his man... i've got a theory that opposition coaches allow this, that they no that he is a liability with the ball for stkilda so they tell whoever his opponent is to let him run free on the wings while they can zone off or run off elsewhere... anyone else think this could be ligit?
