Don't believe McGrath or Livo are the answer. Have had plently of chances and are honest battlers at best. I think Saddington could be valuable and feel he deserves at least another month to prove himself. Should have been moved onto Richo instead of sacrificing Lance.

it's amazing we can give a slow, old hack like saddington all the time in the world to prove himself but pagan will drop a youngster just like that.

Looks good to me...
I think we need Livo...I don't want thornton playing on Rocca!!!

Does anyone think that they might line Walker up on Tarrant considering the good job he did on Croad a couple of weeks ago? Don't really have another matchup for Tarrant.

I was thinking Bannister might be the go...strong and fast enough. Problem with Walker is that you want him to do provide some positive run off the backline....he might beat Tarrant but he would be fully occupied.

Other ideas:
McGrath for Buckley.
Thornton for Cloke.
Livo for Rocca.
Whitnall floating plus left overs.

How good is it that people talk about Walker with such confidence about the jobs he could do now? The best story of the year along with Murphy.

I think it's about time that Lappa moved forward again. We will miss his run from hb I know but I think guys like Bannister and Walks are ready to step up into that role of rebounding the footy off hb. Even guys like Scotland and Houla can go back behind the play and help out our defensive half. I also think that Deluca needs to go back to the seconds in the VFL to play with the Northern Bullants, to get back confidence and work on his game. His marking and timing to do so and ruckwork is good but he needs to learn to take one grab marks. I think that his confidence is down and he needs to regain that. This also gives new recruit Josh Kennedy to make his debut for the Blues who has been in terrific form over the past few weeks playing in the VFL for the Northern Bullants.

I think you could add the improvement of Houlihan to that list as well.

Don't know if we can win this one. I reckon we have a better forward line than the pies, but their midfielders have won more of the ball this year. If we can break even in the midfield, we can cause an upset.

My match-ups would be: Livingston on Rocca. Walker on Tarrant. Thornton on Buckley. And Bannister on Didak. Don't really rate any of Collingwood's individual midfielders high enough to put a tag on them. - Apart from Buckley, they're all sort of good-ordinary players. That kind of works in their favour though. Instead of being a team of individuals, Collingwood's real strength comes from their ability to work as a team.

Agree with this but imo we should drop russell for Mcgrath. Thornton got smashed last time on Buckley and Mcgrath came in and did a good stoppers role. For this reason I feel he should be an inclusion to play on Buckley again.

Who will pick up the great Travis Cloke if Saddington is dropped?

Saddington will probably stay with Kennedy coming and Livingston in coming in for Russell and Deluca. Livo should have played last year because it was a ridiculous move to have Lappin playing on Cleve Hughes!

Is Lappin too unaccountable to play on Thomas? I'd hate to see Lappin caught out if he runs off to set up play and there is a turnover with the ball ending up in Thomas's hands. :o

Agree with that. T-Bird got smashed by Buckley last year and when McGrath went onto him, he did a fairly good job. For this reason, i'd make the following changes

In: Kennedy, Livingston, McGrath
Out: DeLuca, Saddington, Russell (unlucky to be ommited, purely for matchups)

Last year - huh?? :D

I reckon Bannister on Buckley, does anyone remember R22 two years ago when he tore bucks a new one? I greatly remember he took a great one on one mark against him and duely slotted it from about 40 out.

From memory last year in the VFL Bannister played on Cloke and beat him soundly although it may have been his brother. T-Bird has caught the Livo disease this year where he is to reactive and hasn't been reading the play and gets caught behind all the time, really he has been beaten in every game this year the player he plays on kicks the most goals for the opposition, needs to gain some of his old confidence and start leading his player to bthe ball and start playing instinctive proactive footy or he will become a liability, if i see him look over his shoulder and blame someone else one more time i will lose it. Anyway this is how our backs should line up.

Thomas----------------------Rocca--------------------- Buckley
Lappin/Mcgrath----------Livingston/Mclaren-----------Walker/Bannister

Didak------------------------Tarrant---------------------Cloke
Mcgrath/Lappin-----------Walker/Bannister---------Saddington/Thornton

If Rocca plays CHF Whitnall will go back for sure. Plus any one of Houlihan Scotland, Simpson will all go back at some stage same as last week, although i would prefer them to play forward of centre where they can cause damage and hit the forwards lace out and if they do that we will out score Collingwood.:thumbsu:

Out: Deluca, Russell, Saddington/Thornton?
In: Mcgrath, Livingston, Kennedy

You guys are forgetting that we will have another tall at times in the forward line in Fraser! How will you match up on him given that he is playing better by the hour? You better hope your midfielders get back and help out

In season 2006 Collingwood are averaging 17.6 goals per game (#1 in AFL) to Carlton's 11.4 goals per game (#15 in AFL).

Collingwood have three players (Rocca = 1, Tarrant = 12, Didak = 12) in the top 20 goal kickers in the league, Carlton has one (Fevola - 4th).

A forward rotation of Rocca, Tarrant, Buckley, Fraser, Didak, Davis, Caracella, Thomas and Cloke.........Carlton's forward line is not even close for depth or talent.

The one thing you have is Fevola and his ability to carry your forward line on his own. If he can kick 6 or more, you guys are a chance to beat anyone.

Not sure I agree with rating forward lines based on how many goals a team kicks. Sydney were a low scoring team last year and they had a gun forward line.

How about considering playing style?
Sydney are very defensive. Hard to score against. They apply tags they play empo football. They slow it down. They love the stoppages.

Carlton are playing numbers back. We dont take teams on in the midfield. We like the stoppages and we like to play our ruckman back and to have numbers back. That leaves us with no real structure up forward. We have also had Fisher out and Waite and Fev. Your club has had everyone all up and going and fit.
Western Bulldogs are a high scoring team but have an avergae forward line. They attack and have a great midfield. You can kick plenty on them but they kick plenty back.

Your team is kicking bags of goals because of a dominant midfield who are using the ball well. Forwards are in form but it has more to do with winning the clearances and using the ball well rather than exceptional forward play.

Not sure there is much between each forward line if both are fit and everyone is available. But a pretty big difference in the midfield this year and the back lines.

Agree with most of what you have said Mojo, especially with regards to Sydney. However, I think you may be overating our midfield a little....its workmanlike and we are getting better rotations this year but it's hardly dominant. Our use of the ball has been ok.....can be awful at times but much improved on past seasons.

Part of that improvement has come from the kids developing but most is that they have a forward line and structure to kick to.

You guys are very dependent upon Fev kicking a bag to help get you a winning score. We got 1 goal from Tarrant and Rocca combined against Essendon but had cameos from Buckley (3) and Didak (4) to pick up the slack. Not sure you guys have the playing personel to pick up the slack when your big guns don't fire.

Irrespective......I don't accept that you have a better forward line-up as many on this site have proclaimed.
