I think this is how we might lineup against the Power on Sunday.

B: King Thursfield Newman

HB: Raines Polak J.Bowden

C: Tivendale Johnson Jackson

HF: Pettifer Hughes Edwards

F: Brown Richo Schulz

R: Pattison Tuck Foley

Inter from: Simmonds Tambling Meyer McGuane Howat Hyde Hartigan

I think the 3 highlighted players will come into the squad as Wallace looks to give them a bit of game time towards the end of the year. From all reports, Meyer has been good at Coburg in recent weeks in terms of his defensive pressure and ability to play a run with role and restrict his opponents influence on games, perhaps TW is looking at making Meyer another tagger. Hughes had a good game last week against Willy and we are in desperate need of a lead up type and I think that Hughes could fill that role for the remainder of the year. I think McGuane deserves another chance at senior level has been playing good footy at Coburg over the last few weeks and gives us another option down back playing against Port who have multiple options in their forward line.

Tactically I think that Wallace will look at repeating the Johnson tag on Burgoyne and I can see Jakson being given the role of running with Chad Cornes to try and limit his influence on the game.

just another week of uninspiring team selection failing to make the hard decisions

cant wait :o

FFS get riewoldt in there!!! i dont care if people say he's not up to it or too young. just get him in there for the rest of the year.

It doesn't always get in does it Mrs Marsh.....why do people persist in demanding chnages to our forward line when our midfield is so crap at present that we are getting 20-30 less opportunities inside 50 per game??? We could have Dunstall, Ablett, Lockett, Carey and Richo but if the ball is not making it past the centre all they will catch is the flu.

If Wallace turned meyer into a tagger it would be the stupidest thing he has ever done.
Meyer has shown us Jacksh1t,
But from what i hear (and ive heard it many times.)
He has the best skills on our list,
and it would just be stupid to have our best skilled player tagging someone!

it could be beneficial. Tagging some of the better midfielders would teach him discipline and whats required at the top level. Could also teach him where to run and how to find the ball(his biggest weakness). I for one would love to see him turned into a run with player as an apprenticeship

Not really. Meyer did a good job shuting down the Iaccuboni the other week. He cut us to pieces early. So Meyer can do the job. From day 1 his defensive pressure has been pretty good and tagging will help him get to the right places. I think it showed when he tagged Iaccubon he got 6 or 7 possies real quickly. And was very classy with all of them.

I wouldnt have him follow out and out stars but say a braun, Pendlebury or a stanton. Guys who run hard to get to the right spots but are not really inside explosive midfielders.

This weekend get him to follow maybe salopek. Its just about getting him involved in the game. So a run with job or a spot on the HB line would be good for him.

cant say the same for when he tagged tom roach the other week in the vfl, roach was best on ground imo, cut us to peices and meyer got a few disposals for the game.

Played well against the Bullants in a run with role, played well last week from reports again in a run with role. As mentioned having him follow a player who knows how to get to contests may just see him get involved with the play a little more often and if that happens then perhaps he gets more of the ball and can use his skills to greater effect than say 5 limited chances in the F50. We all talked about having Lids follow good players around so that it can get him more involved. Meyer is as frustrating as anyone on our list, has the talent to be a decent enough player but seems to lack the intensity needed to go and win his own footy. Get someone to lead him to it and it could be the thing that gets him going. Hell we invested enough in him to warrant trying whatever it takes to get him to deliver.

Just swap the team with the coburg side bar richo and let's see how we go.:thumbsu:

I really have a feeling you may win this week. I may be a crows supporter but I always tip port if I think they will win and to be honest I just think you will do it this week.

I agree that a tagging apprenticeship would do him good Tony. It's certainly easier to run outside your endurance levels (and ultimately, improve them) if you're following someone, rather than getting there first every time only to get physically belted, plus having to think about positioning constantly.

I like seeing our developing youngsters who are actually capable of being damaging - like Meyer and Jackson - doing tagging roles in the sort of apprenticeship Kirk had.

If someone has the skills it's half the battle won...then you just need to hone their fitness, strength, competitiveness and football smarts. Tagging is the ideal apprenticeship to gain those assets.
