Re: Side versus St Kilda.

Macaffer was great in the reserves no doubt. But I fail to see what he brings to the team that will help us defeat the saints.
Has averaged a meager 13 touches & 0 goals in his 2 games against the saints...if he does anything this game I'd be surprised but happy if he proves me wrong & plays well.
Leon was always gonna come back in and happy with his return.
Would love 2 know what the deal is with Medders!!

Agreed, I'd much prefer Medhurst and his enormous 11 touches and .5 goals that he has averaged in the last two games against the Saints.

Why the hell was macaffer selected ahead of medhurst? Macaffer adds absolutely nothing to the team he has absolutely no impact on any matches that he plays whilst medhurst in form is one of our best 5 players and has the ability to win a game of his own boot. I think he has been out for long enough. At least he should be an emergency . bloody hell!!!!!!!!!

Re: Side versus St Kilda.

So Jolly is Rucking Solo this week.

JA is about Finshed

So you're telling me a 22 year old key position forward is finished? I really hope that next season if Jack is still at the Pies (and we'd be absolutely idiotic to trade him or let him go without a fight) and he has had the opportunity to put in a full preseason in the gym that he proves ALL the doubters wrong.

As for the side we have selected, I seem to remember that after we lost the the Saints in Round 3 everyone was screaming out for us to play a second tall target (we went in without Dawes or Anthony). It seems as if we are going down the same path, so I wonder if we lose because Gilbert, Fisher and Blake mark everything the comes into the F50, whether we might FINALLY learn that we need more than just a single tall target (excluding Jolly as he's the primary ruckman and Leroy because he's a bit of a jack of all trades/gapfiller, not a designated forward). The only way this kind of set up will prevail is if its pissing down and the ball is on the ground a lot. Don't expect us to change our game plan and play on at all costs to move the ball quickly into a small forward line because it simply will not happen, nor should we change our gameplan for any side because this would be implying that our gameplan to start with isn't good enough to be the best. We need to play the way we do, just better

Because Macaffer is in better form (VFL) and Medhurst hasn't impacted a game for over a year. I would have liked to see Medhurst included, but there is no reason for him to be selected ahead of Macaffer at the moment.

Macaffer is clearly one of our better players in the vfl but he has had little impact at afl level. medhurst actually was in very good form this year before he got injured. Especially for a big game like this you have to pick your matchwinners.

I like those ins.

I don't.

McCaffer has consistently choked on the big stage. I don't care how many tackles he lays. Give me Medhurst. I'll forgive him for his last few disgraceful efforts in front of goal when he bags a few under pressure. Until then his presence annoys the crap out of me.

What was the last game Medhurst won for us? His performance in 'big' games is terrible, he has never stood up to be a matchwinner in the games that matter (not since '08 anyway).

When was he in very good form this year? Take out the two bags of 3 against teams we beat by 10 goals and it's a pretty bare year for Medhurst again. He has been largely uninspiring for the most part.

As much as people want to deny it, the fact is this isn't the same Medhurst of '08, one decent game in the VFL isn't going to change that.

Last year or the year before Ja sat in the forward line, marked everything and kicked unbelievably straight. Looked good.

Im not sure if im on my own here but its like he has had a brain snap. Over the last 5 or 6 games he seems to not give a stuff. Lazy, makes no effort if its on the ground and seems to just want to hip and shoulder peoples head. He has made some absolute idiotic decisions when all around him are calm and direct with getting the ball out.

Idiotic to tade him, NO WAY id give him up tomorrow as i dont think there is a spot for him.

Put it this way, the DAWES are open so let him go.

Pretty pissed off that JA got dropped, it was the perfect opportunity to play him at FF. However on reflection I see where MM is coming from, the small forward line is the go with Dawes and Brown/Jolly rotating through.

With 3 of our best forwards out (Cloke, Medhurst and DIck) and one of our best defenders/captain out, the pressure is all on a full-strength Saints side.

Re: Side versus St Kilda.

He's rucking solo, he's rucking solo.... hahaha bad joke...

LOL I reaslly liked it. Was contemplating posting the same joke, but was too a little insecure about being lame. I should not have been. LOL :thumbsu:

Agree - Would Rather Rounds then McCaffer

You should definitely work in the media Dave.

Please dont take this the wrong way but you must be about 15 with that kind of short term thinking. Has it never happened before that a player, after dominating one year, has had a quiet year following? In Jack's case there is obviously something which has contributed to this (his shoulder op and lack of a pre season both in the gym and on the track building up his aerobic base), and although it's not the sole reason it is none the less a valid one. Jack has played in a powrer forward position, without the power, theres not much chance of being able to outbody seasoned defenders like Scarlett, Lake, Merret, Glass etc. HE IS 22 FOR FUX SAKE!!!!!!!!!! With what he has shown so far we could be doing much worse. If another 2 seasons pass and he's had a chance to get his body right in the gym and still isn't showing anything, then decisions need to be made, but the next 2 drafts will present us with very little opportunity to get decent, let alone quality key position players. Here, we have a guy who could potentially play at both ends of the ground and we want to throw it away? For what its worth I actually think he has improved his chasing and harassing of defenders. He's not Brad Dick or Alwyn Davey that's going to chase players down from 15m back. How many times has Dawes chased down an opponent from behind this season, yet he is getting rave reviews. Anyway this isn't the Jack Anthony thread so let's just agree to disagree

So Jolly is Rucking Solo this week.

Jolly's been rucking solo last month.

Secondly, Dave, cut the crap.

Lastly, Medhurst very stiff. Should have been selected ahead of Caff. Last couple of games against Cats/Saints, Caff has missed some sodas in front of goal that proved pivotal in the context of those games. Medders gives us forward line presence and star quality. Should have been selected.

Caff's last chance for mine (as far as 2010 goes), he was like a deer in headlights against Geelong.

Needs to suck it up and deliver under pressure, good luck to him.

Did you happen to forget the game in rnound 1 vs the bulldogs or the Hawthorn game. His finals performances have always been great besides for last year when he wasn't fit. The facts speak for themselves. Macaffer hasn't even had 1 good game in his career.

Got to reward excellent performances and Macaffer has done what Dawes did earlier in the year and that is go back and prove he is above VFL level. All he needs to do now is take the step up to AFL level.

That said, I maybe would have given him another week at that level and played JA or Medhurst, preferably Medhurst. We struggle to kick goals against the Saints so I'd have taken a chance on an out of sorts proven goalkicker like Medders or an uproven goalkicker that can kick 3 goals from 5 kicks like JA.

We would have won the Bulldogs game without his score contribution, so he didn't win us that match.
He didn't even kick a goal in our 60 point win against Hawthorn so I don't know what you are referring to there.

The facts do speak for themselves, Medhurst has been underwhelming for over a year now, there is only so long you can rely on your reputation to get a game.

Macaffer was BOG two weeks running, his form got rewarded, common sense decision really.

I'm not going get into the 'in or out' argument, but I do have a good feeling about this game. For once we are the hunters rather than the hunted and I reckon the boys have a point to prove after their last game against these guys and the BS between Milne and Mick. Go get e'm Pies!:thumbsu:

At least we can run under their legs. This would have to be the shortest team we've fielded this season by a long stretch. If we even start to bomb it into the forward 50 all night, I'm going to turn the goddamn TV off and go get drunk.
