Looks like the axe has, ahem, "fallen"

B: McVeigh Fletcher Zantuck
HB: MJohnson Bradley Welsh
C: Stanton Peverill Murphy
HF: McPhee Lloyd Hird
F: Lovett-Murray Lucas Lovett
R: Hille JJohnson Monfries
IC: Laycock Solomon Alvey Bolton
EM: (likely) Hunt, Winderlich, Reynolds

IN: Justin Murphy, Mark Bolton, Angus Monfries
OUT: Damian Cupido, Paul Thomas, Jason Winderlich (all omitted)

With Fletch under an injury cloud, we may see Sam Hunt play a senior game for the first time in three years.

Can't complain.

Murphy > Cupido
Bolton > Thomas
Monfries > Winderlich

2 onballers in for one non-existant one.

Bolton to do the tagging job on Judd, I'd think.
I'd play Monfries on Cousins and let him learn what its all about at the elite level.

Great to see Monfries in

Well - he sure showed those senior players a thing or two.

He is a joke. Sheedy has more hot air coming out of his mouth than in a hot air balloon.

So by all accounts - Cupido, Winderlich and Thomas are the senior players he was talking about?

GUTLESS GUTLESS GUTLESS!!!

Waht a conservative senile old man he has become. If anyone wants an example of why Sheedy is past his prime, here it is folks. :(

Matchup of the Round- Embley VS McPhee
Would be great if these two go head to head, to see who is the best utility in the game ATM. My tip would be McPhee as he is stronger overhead although Embers does have a bigger tank and runs all day.

Maybe he thinks playing West Coast in Subiaco, is more severe than being dropped.

Apparently not - read my other thread I started - he thinks we can win. :(

What do you want him to say ?
"Fellas, we are no possible hope today. Just try your hardest."

Much as that might be true, he has to put a positive spin on it. Can you name one coach in the world in any sport who has gone into a match by declaring publicly that their team could not win ?????
Any coach, any sport ????

Senior players are senior players and reserves players are reserves players for a reason. Because in most circumstances they just happen to be far better players then them.

Say you dropped Solomon and brought in Hunt or one of the other Bendigo Bombers.
Inevitably they would look not up to standard and next weeks thread would contain that poor kids name amongst the ones to be delisted next year.

I just love how supporters think that a kid playing good reserves football is a better player than the senior player who has played 100 games or more who is in a bit of a slump.

Sheeds should stop making empty threats, it just makes him look like a fool in the eyes of everyone (including players) if he doesn't follow through on them. There was a time when if Sheeds threatened a senior player with the chop they would be worried about it, I doubt they are anymore. I am a long time Sheeds fan but he has undoubtedly become very conservative in the last few years, that's the nice way of saying it.

I'm disappointed at Winderlich's omission. Always happy to see Monfries get a go.

Bolton and Murphy, meh. That they remain as automatic inclusions in our senior side only serves to highlight the serious straights we find ourselves in. I would have an inexperienced kid in their place, regardless of whether that meant we performed worse in the short term.

I just don't understand that.

Anybody who thinks Winderlich is even close to being as good a footballer than Murphy now mustn't be watching the same game.
Or Bolton for that matter !!!!

Murphy has more possessions in one game than Winderlich has in five.

We desparately lack midfielders and play the best onball division in the game on Friday, yet some would rather play somebody who gets 7 possessions a match versus somebody who gets 20 or 25 and is proven at senior level.

You play your best possible side as much as you can. There is room to carry only one player to 'give him experience' otherwise it will just ends up in disaster.

Except ever possession Murphy has is out on the full or a turnover. He has been shocking this year, does not deserve to be in the team on form and should be relegated to Bendigo until he can show some commitment.

To drop Cupido is ridiculous, at least he has been team-oriented since his trip to Bendigo.

I just love how he keeps threatening to do something and then never does. Works wonder with my kids (not), should work a treat on grown ups.

How can they drop Cupido ahead of Solomon, then Bolton get a walk in. What a joke.

Yeah lets drop some big names! Drop Lloyd, the pev, soloman etc and lets go to perth and try beat the ordinary team that is the west coast eagles. Why would you want to take the best team possible to play the eagles? Bring on the kids! They'll do a great job. I mean were just going to the home ground of the team that is clear top of the ladder, nothing to worry about when the big names arent there.

If he has no intention of dropping senior players then he ought stop threatening to do so. Anyone with children knows that a threat that isn't followed through carries very little weight when it's repeated.

This is the very reason why alcohol and weed should be banned from selection meetings.

Its not the ins that p1ss me off although how bolton gets a game has me stuffed. Its the blokes he drops. Winderlich and cupido had a dip last week and a boot in the arse is their reward.

Our best possible side, with no injuries and everyone in form would include Murphy, but it's also one of the worst in the league. There isn't much point in persisting with elements of it imho, if they have no future.

If you're having a crack at a flag selection policy is different to when you're a cellar dweller trying to discover a new team to go forward with - at least that's how I see it. You may not agree.

If Winderlich was played ahead of Murphy we would play worse, yes. Winderlich is not as good as Murphy at this point in time. However there is a chance he could be better, given time and a bit of faith. Besides watching Murphy squib contests, and generally not to do the team things if it means taking a hit, which he somehow manages without any retribution from the coaching panel just gets my goat. I know I won't get that from Winderlich - plus it's about confidence for a young kid. His last game was one of his best imho and he was getting in there and working hard with little support - for that he's dropped - when there were plenty of others more deserving. Bolton's a different case, his problem is that he simply isn't good enough.

I think we might all be taking the selected side a little bit too seriously.

I wouldn't be at all suprised to see Winderlich and Hunt run out.

neither would I Longy, but it still makes me cranky.

"We’ll probably make three changes, four at the most. I don’t believe in having wholesale changes. Whether we drop big name players, well I’ll have a think about that," Kevin Sheedy said this afternoon before training.

Personally I dont see that as a threat. But there is no way ANY big name player would be left in melbourne when weve got a game like this. We need all the help we can get for this game and bringing in inexperienced players is not going to help the situation were in at the moment.

Fletch and Zantuck are likely outs anyway, so we might see Winderlich still. Frankly I think he has to be played and on the ground as much as possible.

Bolton in and Cupido out, well, that's what we call the class clown being dropped for the teacher's pet.

" Sheedy has forecast major changes for his side.

He will start by getting rid of the experienced players he expected to offer more, but refused to name who was in the gun.

'We're going to continue on playing some of the younger players and give them every opportunity, and look at the players of experience we felt should have played better and we'll probably drop some of them.' "

Quite different from what was reported erlier in the week. I have no problems with who he picks, he's the coach. But if he has no intention of making sweeping changes, don't forecast them.

Its great to have a dip but if you're not up to AFL standard then it means nought.
And unfortunately just as Longy doesn't rate Thomas, I don't rate Winderlich.

Honest trier, yes no question.
Good enough to play on any of Judd, Kerr, Cousins, Fletcher, Stenglein, Embley, Braun, Sampi - IMO no and never will.

Am happy to be proven wrong and would love for him to really string a few 20 possession games together.
But the fact remains he struggles to even have 10 possession games and that frankly is not good enough.
