Sorry Mods, the other thread roasting TV is so blatantly in our faces I had to start this.

Awesome job last night TV. You show the nay sayers! Nobody can say you haven't showed anything now.

A few more years and you will be an integral part of a great side.

Tigers!

Wally Matera might as go and barrack for Carlton. He's bagging a 200cm player who's played a massive 23 games. Good onya Vickery. I still see him as a ruckman who will play forward. A bit like Derickx. In time Vickers will be a quality player :thumbsu:

Pretty ordinary 1st quarter and was more a case for me of "get him into the ruck because he has NFI at FF!"

Then he turned it on!!

Ironic because in the other thread, even the most negative posters are not writing him off, simply saying 'he has shown nothing since arriving. Not one tiny glimpse of potential...signs are not good.'

Well, he has shown 'something'. I think we need to keep a lid on it, which most are not..probably a few have him as a 100 goal FF now.

A great confidence boost for him and I hope he now shows a bit more throughout the rest of the year...enough to say....he will be dominant in 2-3 years!

One game. So i guess Nahas will be good as well as he was Best on Ground. Then i guess Westoff must be as well for port haha!

No , but when a big fella has been on a list for all of 2 seasons, the expectations are all around small forward steps...Lats night it looked as much. Don't confuse the signs for what would be expected of a fella thats been on a list for 5 years or more coz alot of ****wits do ...see other thread for that

ah the one hit wonder crowd you just have to chuckle.
theres no demanding consistency and solid improvement over a decent period of time. nope with you lot one decent performance in two seasons is enough to win you lot over.

he took a very small step and good on him for taking it.is something at least and not before time.

i know he hasn't shown much in open age footy yet, but there's no doubt Vickery's talented and worth developing imo.

I'm sure many on here have a better understanding of Richmond's fringe players in particular than i do, although for what it's worth over on the Essendon board we recently did a series of threads previewing various sides for 2011, and i decided to do Richmond.

I put Post chf and Jack at ff, with Vickery playing a similar role to Paddy Ryder playing deep and chopping Graham out in the ruck.
Obviously there's a lot of love for Griffiths too, and in the 3 or 4 times i've seen him he's certainly shown a bit to get excited about, and would be one to get a run at various stages also.

i'm curious for some more detail on:

1. How Vickery played and how he kicked his goals......(eg, primarily lead and mark, big hangers, floating back etc).
2. Did he do much other than the goals?
3. Did Post and or Griffiths play? If so, any comments on their game such as what role they played and how they went would be appreciated.

Cheers guys, and apart from when you play us, go tiges.:thumbsu:

Still hasn't won me over completely, but showed some signs last night and that's all I wanted. Just to see that he has something to offer.
He clearly has something to offer and if he can work hard at it, he may end up making a fool of me.I hope he does.
EVen though his first quarter was ordinary, he still managed to get his hands on the football and even that was an encouraging sign.
Consistency is the key now. I don't expect to kick 5 goals next week, but I do expect him to contribute every week from now on.

1. Predominantly lead and mark, took alot of his shots from around 40 out if i remember correctly. He missed a few early on, couldve been a tally of 7 if he shot truely early on
2. Judging from the stream, im pretty sure Derickx and Graham played ruck all night which left vickery in the forward line
3. Neither Post or Griffiths played

only a small step, but at least he showed something, which is a good start.

doesnt mean he is going to be a player for us, but it shows that he is capable of producing something of substance.

we all know in footy it all comes back to consistency

Well told you guys he will be good. He will prove you all wrong and I even claimed it in the roast thread in the face of criticism. He will be a weapon if he remains injury free and develops. He is just too skinny now to really impact games.

My take on how Vickery played last night was he just got to the right spots and appeared to know what he was doing leading out from FF.

One goal was from a 50m penalty when he was pressed on the boundary, but from memory, the other four were from strong leads and straight kicking. He also kicked a nice snap goal in a bit of traffic from 35m.

I don't recall any pack-breaking marks, but one or two may have been contested.

He had a fairly quiet first half, but had some really nice touches in the 2nd quarter, including a few deft handballs with two resulting in goals (one to Martin when he came straight off the bench).

Basically, he ran to the right spots, got on the end of some nice passages of play and kicked straight. Provided a good target and looked like he belonged.

I've known guys from overseas trying to learn about the game who can tell the difference in development between a 20 year old, 200cm ruckman, a 23 y.o. small forward and a 24 y.o. full forward in his fifth season.

Well done Vickery. Couldn't have pulled out a game like that at a better time to make the posters on here look foolish.

TV has finally shown something. Must be millers mentoring and coaching :D
