Terrified?

So 25yrs isn't enough to understand anything? OK then.... Um, where was my reference to us requiring another poor year anyway? I want us to do as well as possible at every outing, as most who attend all our games do. i don't give a rats a** about rebuilding / draft picks, i just want to go out and see our fellas do as well as we possibly can at every outing. St. Kilda spent 30 odd years at the a** end of the ladder and how many p/ships has it brought them? You just need the right people running the operation, and at this particular point in time i am quietly confident that we may have almost reached that point (besides our club president). I too believe Baily can bring us good things, and am excited about our prospects over the years to come, however i don't want to listen to Jokers downgrading our club before a ball has even been bounced for the season.

Terrified???? Dead set, must be watching too many pansy sports.

Thats exactly right.

Regardless of what tanksters like Hawthorn, Carlton and/or St.Kilda supporters may tell you, there isn't a scrap of solid evidence linking 400 early draft picks to premierships. Because it doesn't exist. Continual high draft picks are just something for 15 year old BigFooty posters to do their nuts over. Scott McMahon and Ed Lower had better first years at our club than Daniel Wells did in his first year and these two guys, while being U/18 AA players, were rookie elevations.

I love all the half witted experts out there that are certain that we will be 14th to 16th this season. It's really sad that the mainstream media is as unable to think beyond what we did last year as the main board of Bigfooty. Three consecutive years of finals footy followed by a season devastated by injuries and suddenly we are a shit list in need of a rebuild.

How the hell does a young and talented list that was one of the 2 Victorian teams seen as a chance to win the premiership at the start of 2007 become a hopeless old mess by the end of the year? Lazy journalism and ill-bred mob-think is the culprit here. We only need a good run of luck to run through the comp this year. Sir Brock actually has a pre season under his belt for the first time, Rivers is back, we have a coach who just might possibly have a plan B!!

We are back and we will smash some heads in 2008. I can't ****ing wait.

Unfortunately David Schwarz has joined that lazy group of journalists, picking us to finish last. He described our forwardline as 'aging' and mentioned that you're in trouble when a 31 year old wins the best and fairest. He then went on to justify that Essendon would be ok with Lloyd and Lucas up forward but missed that they are the definition of an aging forwardline and that they're best and fairest just retired in his mid 30's.

I'm getting more excited by the day and have no idea what to expect. I'm really hoping for a harder working, grittier, determined attitude which would see us pushing for top 8 at worst. Bring it on!!!

Aging forward line? Who Neitz and Robbo? Fair enough we don't have Buddy Franklin or Tom Hawkins, but the future of the MFC forward line is bright imo. Bate, Juice, Maric, Davey, Garland, Dunn, and to an extent Miller, all young player with encouraging futures. Its been our heavy relience on Neita and Robbo over the last 10 years that it will be good to show off some of the up and coming talent that we have at our disposal.

If we finish last I'll eat my hat. Well actually I don't own a hat, buy I'll buy one and then eat it. Thats how stupid I think the calls of us finishing last are.

You guys will be right, i hope so anyway.

Its stressful being a Hawk supporter this year i can tell you. Never have i entered a season with so much expectation. I cant control it. what if we play like shit?

God i want that 10th Flag...

yes we entered last season with a lot of expectation and look what happened there a few key injuries and its game over

Anyone else want to hop on board my Terrified bandwagon now?

We're running at a deficit of 135 points for the season so far. And the team hasn't looked even half decent yet.

Getting "terrified" based on preseason performances is just...ugh. I dont want to put it into words.

I was terrified well before the beginning of pre-season.
What exactly are you terrified of, us not winning a game, Melbourne moving to West Sydney, petrol prices, Iraq, Kevin Rudd running the country?

If we do struggle this year, we have to have some faith about the process Bailey is going through and believe in the group of young players we have, otherwise stop being terrified and go become a board member.

I will reserve judgement til the season starts. So should everyone else. We don't have a bad team. We don't have a star player but we need commitment and the results will come.

About the season ahead?

For a while there we were up and down each year, and we went poorly last year - but the last time we missed finals two years in a row would have been about 1996 or so, right?

During that time, this is the first season we've entered where I've genuinely got no hope for the team to have an impact. That worries me.

My main hope for Melbourne this year is that our Administration hasn't been shaken up TOO much, and that financially we move forward, and perhaps get a bit more media attention. As for on field, I must honestly say, I am not that interested in us this year.

Maybe it's because I've been following a lot of other sports more and more over the last few years - but I'm afraid I'm becoming one of "them" - our bandwagon supporters. I am officially terrified.

... don't worry though, I'm still a paid up member either way.

Oh for f sake. Sick of this crap.

There has been a bit of a flux of negative posts in recent times after the summer was nothing but positive outlooks. Look sure enough our preseason performances have been less than spectacular, but its still just the preseason. If we are winless after 5 rounds, and don't have the same run of injuries as last year, then maybe it might be time to rip some shreads off the team.

Terrified? Not in the slightest. Bring on Round 1.

Overall I'm optimistic, I think the club is heading in the right direction - we have some good people in charge now and I think the short term pain will pay off.

It's just the reality of a poor season ahead is starting to set in. We don't look like even being competitive this year imo.
