Well, seeing as he hasn't been named, Max Hudghton has played his last game for the club. Unfortunately, he hasn't gone out in the glorious fashion we know he deserved. Underestimated over his whole career, but so, so respected by us supporters. One of the best full-backs over a decade. Wore his heart on his sleeve, and was a true saint. Max Hudghton, congratulations on a wonderful career. Sorry it had to end this way. But most of all, thankyou.

Couldn't agree more.

True St Kilda legend, probably no more loyal servant over the past 12 or so years than Max. Always gave his all in every game he played, through both good times and bad. Deserved to finish his career on a much better note than this but I'm sure that won't affect the respect in which he is held by Saints supporters.

It may not be as bad as Harves going with no Flag. But it's still pretty bad. If we win this flag, I hope some dedication or mention comes from Roo on the Dias... cos Maxxy was a gun.

Thanks Maxy!
Truly a freakish player, the ammount of times I thought he'd kill himself...
Heart-breaking for him, hope he will be there on Saturday
Deserves some mention if we win :)
LEGEND!!!

And what about the closing speed? So many times I thought a forward would take a mark and Maxy gains a few metres within a second to get an amazing spoil. So reliable. So good to turn up to a game against Carlton and know the Fev couldn't hurt us.

The Fev moments were great. :D
Maxy doing so good they had to swing Fev down back on the GTrain.

What about when Maxy stood toe to toe with Alistair Lynch, got right up in his face and absolutley let rip. I think there's a .gif of that around somewhere.

Superstar. Absolute champion bloke and defender.

I think he should become a Soccer Goalkeeper because he simply does not concede goals... ;):thumbsu:

He dropped the ball in the Essendon game when we had it.

Winning streak died and so did his career.

Will never forget his job on Buddy. Great player and will be missed.

Lyon had to have his Sydney mate Dempo.

Thank you Max

So many good memories, I don't know where to start. The number of times I thought, "Max can't make up the ground on this lead", and then you do, and spoil the mark as well. Or the times you throw yourself into the contest without any thought of your own well-being, makes me extremely proud

Even in times of poor team seasons, you were our rock, one of our few shining lights

In a time of much excitement as a life-long St Kilda supporter, I can't help but be tinged with a hint of sadness that you won't be part of the team on the MCG Saturday afternoon

I can honestly say that over the last 12 years, I would never have swapped you for another fullback. Not Scarlett. Not Silvagni. Not Glass. Not Lake.

Your spirit and attitude will forever live on in the club

I wish this wasn't your last season, but hope you are as proud of your achievements as we all are of you

Does it need to be official? The reality is that he's 33, and had considered finishing up last year. The prospect of playing finals footy was obviously a lure, and I can't imagine (noting he has a business away from footy) that he'd look to put himself through another pre-season when the club only gave him 7 games this year.

the reality is, neither can i

I would say it hasn't been made official because he wouldn't want to take the focus off the GF with a media conference.

Spot on - it was rumoured he doesn't even want to be near the rooms at the GF, so as not to distract the team. Also speculated that he did not want to be made an emergency if not picked in the 22.

I dont think he has officially retired yet.
It has been reported in both major papers for over a month now that Hudghton has told teammates this will be his last season. There hasn't been an official press conference or anything like that to my knowledge, but he has told teammates.
