I was having a little moment of quiet reflection on the train on the way home from the game last night. It only just occurred to me that effectively next year we're going to have 3 new recruits, Jared Rivers, Matthew Whelan and Clint Bartram. That's automatic selection into the starting 18 and their quality can't be denied. I found that quite exciting to be honest.

Personally though the biggest need for the club is a new ruckman and a key back. I can only hope we trade off Brad Miller to his home in Brisbane for Cameron Wood, who has now taken the backseat to Leuenberger and is too good a player to be a 3rd string ruckman. A key back would also be fantastic but this would be a whole lot more difficult to acquire

Miller is now worth nothing, no club will pick him up. Wood is worth pick 20 IMO, could be a good choice if we get the priority pick at 18 and then use 20 to get Wood. White, PJ and Jamar is still an above average ruck department but we need to pick up a couple in the draft.

Whelan, Carroll, Frawley
Bell, Rivers, Wheatley

This could be a very good underrated backline. Carroll might get a few kicked on him by bigger blokes like Jono Brown, but if hes going to play as an undersized full back then lets see him do it. With a preseason Frawley can be very good on the last line of defence, Rivers is a gun at reading the play, Bell has developed really well, Whelan is a good stopper and Wheatley gives good ball use from the backline.

We just need to find out Mathew Egan or Sauce Merret, but if we dont I'm confident of this backline holding up well.

We shouldn't get rid of Jamar. Ruckmen are invaluable. What happens next year if White gets injured? Should we recall Nick Smith from Box Hill like we did last year?

IMO, I'd rather keep a struggling ruckmen on the list a year or two longer than a struggling midfielder.

I agree that it is an issue we need to address though, either through the draft or trade week.

Solid wishlist CD. I spose we can add to it throughout the year.

With this years draft being one of the worst in recent times i think we can afford to trade 20 to get Wood or Murphy.

Jamars pretty useless, but hopefully some club sees value in him and we can get an alright pick for him.

Ever heard of a man called Paul Johnson? He's not the answer to our woes but he's a damn sight better than a man who has learnt from the Brad Miller school of "shit yourself whenever you get the ball".

Yes, but we can't rely solely on White and Johnson next year (in case one gets injured). You need at least 3/4 ruckmen on your list at any one time I believe.

Dermie on SEN said the solution to our problems is of course the ingenious idea of a 'Line in the Sand' statement. It would be good to see this, and hopefully go one step further and actually win the game and the fight, which Hawthorn couldn't do.

As stupid as it sounds to see most of our players get fined and suspended, I think it would be great to see a massive show of passion and total disregard for the rules in order to stick up for the jumper.

A big fight, a new coach, and a new ruckman and key back. The recipe for success in 2008:thumbsu:

If there was ever the right timne for a fight it was against the pies 2 nights ago. I wanted Chopper to steam down from full-back and clean up Johnson.

I think Doggy will hang them up, too nice a bloke to outstay his welcome (no jokes please, I know what you are thinking).

Has a career in the fire department lined up for him, best of luck to him I say, has been a great servant of our club, can fondly recall the blond ponytail running around in 97/98.
