Hey pillager, you would have been much better off going Ellis>Goddard.

Squiggle tips Pies at 60% chance -- What's your tip? -- Injury Lists » -- All Rd 13 Games

Heppell was averaging over 96 ppg from 6 games at the time and had impeccable durability. Every indication suggested that he was looking like a top 7 defender. He still might be one.
I'm sure you wouldn't have called that trade a fail at the time.

Considering how well Couch has played in the VFL this year and how bad Melbourne have been playing, it is perfectly reasonable to question the selection table as to why his name has not cropped up yet.
Unless a proper and logical answer is supplied as to why Couch won't get a game rather than "I said he won't get a game before the season" rather than shit-stirring and sucking James in you can't expect an overly mature response back.
Personally I would like to hear why Couch is not getting a game NOW not something based on a pre-season prediction.

Makes you wonder why the hell Melbourne drafted him.

Thats why he is ranked at 1k and your sitting close behind at 27k
You sure know your stuff James.
I see it as Pillagers little slice of bad luck. Hasnt had to deal with Lakes suspension, Mal, Birchall, Duffield, christensen, Hale injuries and being subbed. Hasnt had Buddy and Hale play in england ever week.
It may well just mean he trades differently this week. He might just target a R11 backline upgrade to avoid Morris score and keep Swan. I think thats what i would do without looking at his side too closely.
In relation to Heppel, I think he may have payed too high a price to bring him in. Not a bad pick as such, but you have to find value in each and every upgrade to remain competitive.
Buy low, sell high and all that.

With the benefit of hindsight I find it very funny that the first post in this great said kudos to Gibbs
*I know this post doesn't add any value I just thought it was worthy of a mention*
May aswell have given a kid a year of development like Shane Nelson under an AFL program.
They are also losing plenty of money by having upgraded him before the season. You would have thought with promotion, nab form and melbourne sturggling to win their own pill he would play not to even mention how they are going.
Oh come now we all gave James endless shit about that. No need to go rubbing it in anymore.... anyway it might turn out to be genious now that Murphy is out.

Not having a go at you Rude because I'm sure you know more about Melbourne than I do
but what does Melbourne really have to lose by playing Couch? It's the effort that is
lacking, and Couch has shown it week in week out. Surely he has earnt one game?
Very true.
Well, my hand has been forced. These are my planned trades due to Heppell being rested:
Greene ---> Zorko
Townsend ---> Lake/Waters (I have not decided between the two but leaning towards Waters)
This is probably for the best. I would rather have a decent player scoring for my team during round 12 and 13 anyway.
I am Holding Swan. The Collingwood website has him returning in round 10. Surely this is code for a round 11 return if he does not pass a fitness test next week?
If you read the Demons board i gave a perfectly good explanation then and there (before round 1). Ill repeat myself: we have have enough of Couch's style of player already in our side. McKenzie, Bail, Magner and Jones. The names roll on. He is inside player/tagger. He is along way down on the depth chart, even at Melbourne.
It was baffling to a lot of us that he was upgraded ahead of Nicholson, considering Nicho has pace, something we desperately need.
You forgot Maloney who has been shit in plenty of games as well. On current form, although he is more of a HF Couch would be of more value on the HF line than Sylvia who doesn't seem to give a shit any more.
Also, surely Couch could have been given a game ahead of Bail by now (very average player), at least to see how he goes @ senior level? McKenzie has had more shit games than average ones so far as well. Bail & McKenzie get dropped, then proceed to play shit/ mediocre in the ressies, whilst Couch kicks arse, but of course the proven spuds are always the ones who get the recall. It's the Melbourne way. I was watching Casey a couple of weeks ago where Green & Jurrah were both only average (and I'm being generous here), yet both were promoted back to the seniors last week only to contribute jack shit...
Kudos to Treloar
His 119 will come in handy in an otherwise ordinary week so far.
