Everyone seems to be going for Fiji! Samoa are hot favourites with the bookies to go through. I'm backing them. They've got half the Warriors team!

Oh.....

Is the lack of activity in this thread indicative of the interest in this comp? I'm enjoying it a lot, but not many people are talking about it.
Powerhouse performance from the Aussies over the USA last night wining 62-0. Slater aggravated an old knee injury, Hayne and Morris scored 4 tries each and Inglis... WOW! As Matt King said last night he's like the big kid in the u/10's match sometimes.

I was really keen on the tournament to begin with, watched first 8 or 10 games or so, then it came into the week before finals and I couldn't get up as early to watch the game without feeling like death for the rest of the day so unfortunately I haven't been able to keep watching them. I read here when something is posted, and I check the website for results and match reports. My last exam is the 22nd though so I'll be able to watch Aus VS XXX and NZ V ENG and the final.

Bit unhappy I missed the USA game though, I love watching GI tear a game apart which going by that comment sounds like he might have

The whole forum has been down a bit this year and especially so since a couple or three regulars disappeared, but on dedicated Rugby league forums there's enormous interest.

I think any of the top 3 can win it. The Kiwis v England, who were made to look pretty ordinary by France, will be a great game, while Australia should get an easy run through.

England will have to improve on their France display 100% just to get near the Kiwis. There were promising signs against Fiji, (who surely aren't worse than France), but we made heavy weather of it against the Tricoleurs.

Obvously, the Kangaroos are faves but the Kiwis and England have a team that can beat anyone if they play to their potential. Just feel England are a little behind at the moment and not as fluent as the Kiwis and Roos.

Looking forward to the game next week between them. Kiwis by 8.

Plenty of interest in the cup on other league friendly sites but not so much on here. I was hoping for and have gotten my wish for the best world cup ever. Every game has been an enjoyment to watch bar the flogging Aussie gave the Yanks.

the english halves are garbage, I was more impressed by the french 5/8 and to be honest the french half wll be good when he gets some accuracy on his passes.

If england can beat nz, thats a big if they will use the home ground swell to their advantage and put up a good fight. If they lose as expected australia will beat NZ I would think, just to much strike power all over the ground.

Not sure what is achieved by teams winning 60 and 80 to nil? Other than Billy Slater getting injured I guess.

Until there are more than 2 or 3 competitive nations taking part, the RL World Cup will remain almost completely irrelevant on a world stage.

The RLWC is all about the growth, celebration and promotion of our game by people who play and support it, and who might want to play/support it in the future. Who gives a flying **** about relevance on the world stage?

The name World Cup would strongly suggest it's intended to be relevant on a world stage.

I hope one day it is :thumbsu:

Kiwis still look the strongest side to me. Put it this way: in the unlikely event that England beat them, they should have a good chance of winning the Cup.

French five-eighth? Thomas Bosc? Past it. And so slow he makes Sinfield look quick! :p

Their two halves are only kids who should improve.

So what constitutes a world cup in your world? There are around 20 countries with domestic comps. All the countries at the world cup have gone through a qualification series to get to the cup, playing other countries with domestic comps. Countries like Canada who have put a lot of work into there domestic game and are getting 5,000 for internationals want to get into the cup. South Africa have bid for the next world cup and have a huge government injection of funds. South Africa in the past have competed at the cup. People laughed that Lebanon were at the 2000 world cup, they have now gone on to structure a domestic comp that includes clubs, schools and universities. I could go on, mentioning the likes of Fiji who now have well over 40 clubs plus a schools comp, or Wales who have had to split there schools program into 4 sections to cope with the growth of the game there. Or the Irish and Scottish growth, or the Italians.
Might be easier for you to just admit you're not a fan of league and really don't want it to have a world cup because thats something your favorite sport is never going to be able to claim.

Yes, Thomas Bosc. I'd rather have him in my side than Rangi Chase or Sinfield at stand off. That said i'd take Sinfield at locke over any other player in the game if i'm looking to play an attacking game.

On the face of it, that might have given England a few different options, made room for Widdop, etc. Trouble is, Sinfield isn't better at 13 than O'Loughlin. And you're losing grunt out of the pack that most coaches wouldn't accept.

On Bosc we'll have to agree to differ! :)

You couldn't be more wrong. I've attended plenty of league, both State of Origin and Storm matches, and I enjoy watching it.

As for the Rugby League World Cup - forget it! How many of those "20 countries with domestic comps" have a hope in hell of winning it?

Let's face it. Only 3 different countries have even won it, and until 2008 only 2 countries had ever won it.

'World Cup' :)
