FTA-TV The 7pm Project

Oh god

It will start on July 20th and it will look at the day’s news in front of a live audience.
Led by comedian co-hosts Dave Hughes and Charlie Pickering, The 7PM Project will be “the simplest new idea in television for a long time.” The news of the day will be brought to audiences by Carrie Bickmore. The show will have a team of correspondents delivering stories from around Australia and around the world into the studio every night. Ruby Rose will be bringing viewers all the latest music news. The media and sport beat will be covered by James Mathison.

I'm thinking 2 weeks tops.

Re: The 7pm Project - Coming soon to Ten

So this will be something similar to The Glass House but on everyday and with less funny people?

Re: The 7pm Project - Coming soon to Ten

They're comparing it to 'The Panel', however that show worked because a) they had some wonderful, intelligent, creative minds behind it and b) it was only a once a week show, which allowed them to work on it throughout the week and take the best, most interesting 'news' and use it.

This show has neither of those.

Three questions.

1) How does Ruby Rose keep getting tv gigs?

I know she's relatively attractive and has the whole 'celebrity lesbian' thing happening, but really, she has less personality than Tim Lane.

2) Does anyone find Carrie Bickmore funny?

I'm sure she's a nice girl but she really is a 'nothing' tv personality.
She's not a stunner, she's not witty, she's not funny and she generally isn't great with unscripted banter.

3) What does James Mathison know about sport?

His forte is music yet he'll be doing media (a stretch, but fair enough) and sport.
Makes little sense.

I'll give it a chance (if only because i like Charlie Pickering and there'll be a big gap in the spot that Masterchef currently occupies), but it's going to be extremely difficult to maintain a high standard when you're plowing through 5 shows a week and doing it all live.

Less funny than Corrine Grant? Impossible.

Re: The 7pm Project - Coming soon to Ten

I've never found that Charlie bloke funny. He was responsible for my longterm switch from JJJ to Newsradio. :o

Surely Hughes' shtick is wearing thin. This is hopefully the start of Hughes fatigue for the general public, the result being him to picking up garbage for work.

Rose and Bickmore. Not funny and they don't have the female requirement of 'rootability' needed for commercial TV. Rose, because you can't root her and Bickmore because she's a busted out old mum.

And that monkey looking bloke from Australian Idol. Well he came from Australian Idol, enough said.

When I heard about this a few months back I thought it would be a brilliant opportunity to have an anti news show. Spend the cash on researchers and writers and do a job similar to John Stewart, where you have one guy ripping apart the moronic news stories and windbag pundits of the day.

But they serve up this.

Re: The 7pm Project - Coming soon to Ten

It will last 4 episodes.

It will last 6 months, possibly the whole year or more.

Simply because it is a ROVE McMunus production. Which means channel 10 will show it infinite patience despite its predicted and obvious crappiness.
It will attract the same pathetics that tune in to ROVE each week, and will no doubt just do enough to survive.

As soon as I read Dave (once was funny) Hughes and Charlie (Never was funny, not even on foxtel) Pickering were involved. I have not seen much of Ruby Rose, clearly there for the perve value. And having not watched ROVE fopr years, I don't know Carrie Bickmore. This concept could only suck more if they announce special guest commentators, Pete Hellier, Lehmmo, Tom Gleeson and fat horror Julia Morris. And I wager they will show up at some stage, just like on Good News Week.

Thanks but no thanks. I'll stick to 2 1/2 men reruns rather than that. :thumbsd:

Agreed he was terrible on JJJ. I remember they had Tarantino come in one day all he did was try and root the poor bloke they whole way through the interview. One of a select group to get sacked from the station, most leave for better opportunities.

Re: The 7pm Project - Coming soon to Ten

Seriously, what demographic Ten is trying to target at 7pm with this inane drivel?

Teenage lesbians who haven't come out yet?

Surely they'd be more interested in perving on chicks their own age in Se7en's pathetic offering in this timeslot instead.

I'll record the first episode, purely for the enjoyment of watching it spectacularly crash and burn Challenger style...

Re: The 7pm Project - Coming soon to Ten

As hard as this is to believe, but Channel 10 have backed this in for an entire year of production. Not for the rest of this year, but an entire year of production. Simply a huge gamble for such expensive television.

It could work, but, again, the line-up is all wrong. If they have GNW 'comedians' rotating through (Corrine Grant, ugh) this will be a stuff-up of biblical proportions for ten.
