They started strong and tackled better than I've seen for a while.

Their pass kicking was awesome, especially Mitchell who is a freak.

The fluke goals helped widen the margin but they were all over the top of Sydney any way you look at it.

The Swans were just bombing long and had zero forward structure after collapsing back and flooding much too early on in the game.

Reminded me of a Ross Lyon Saints game the way they flooded and just dug themselves a hole they couldn't get out of, you just can't stop attacking.

The statistical indicators would tell you that Geelong was trailing Essendon in most areas on Friday night. But there is one commodity that isn't recorded in statistics and that's good old fashioned mental and physical toughness. The Cats had it and that is why they won, it's as simple as that. They had options too. When goals needed to be kicked at a crucial time Tom Lonergan was the man up forward. When a flood of goals from the Bombers needed to be stopped Podsiadly was the man down back. When Taylor Hunt was forced off injured, Jackson Thurlow stepped up to the mark. The Cats were as flexible as they were tough. Although one set of statistics that didn't lie were those attributed to Steve Johnson. Has there ever been a more creative, influential and damaging display between the two arcs than Stevie J's magic show on Saturday night? It wouldn't have surprised any of the 53,000 fans at Docklands if Johnson had have stood in the centre square and pulled a rabbit out of a silk handkerchief, so spellbinding was his performance. The Bombers may have had statistics on their side but the Cats had the unpredictable, unstoppable magician Stevie J and a supporting cast of players that fed off his creative genius. So, Geelong sits comfortably on top of the ladder and for those who thought the fabulous era of 'The Greatest Team Of All' was over..... look away now. It might get scary.

Something I wrote before the match.

When the Essendon players line up before the first bounce on Friday night they should take a moment to look deep into the eyes of their opponents Geelong. The Cats club song says that Geelong is the greatest team of all and the words mean more than just cliched rhetoric. Here is a club that has built its success, not from early draft or priority picks, not from throwing obscene amounts of money to entice players to stay, not from favors from the AFL, and above all not from embarking on a programme of injecting its players with questionable substances in order to gain an unfair advantage. Geelong's success has been hard earned through shrewd management, skillful recruiting, old fashioned honesty and integrity, and development of a solid culture that is the envy of every other club. It's a top of the ladder clash between two unbeaten sides, and in any other season would be regarded as a blockbuster. But it's not. In any other year 50,000 people, regardless of the result, would walk away from Docklands happy that they have seen the two best teams in the league. But they won't. Why, because one team plays by the rules and the other doesn't. One team is honest, and the other is a cheat. On Friday night every fair minded, football loving neutral will want Geelong to win because every fair minded person likes to see honesty prevail over deceit. It may not happen of course because life has a habit of sometimes not giving us what is fair or just. But anything other than a Cats win will be irrelevant. We know how good Geelong is and how good they have been, but we don't know the level of cheating by Essendon or how it has advantaged them. We know from statistics that they have won six out of six but sadly that statistic has no credibility, and nor would a win this week over the Cats. So Bombers.... look deep into the Cats eyes on Friday night and ask yourselves if, regardless of the result, you deserve to share the same stage with Geelong Football Club.

Lost my other UF game by 2 tackles, as well. And lost the Demons/Bombers match by a point, and lost to the Suns by 10 goals.
