Yes ... Gus Graham is an interesting call

I'm quielty LMAO @ all these sages who who think Derickz is going to waltz in from Margeret River via 1 season in the WAFL straight into our numero uno ruck slot

...while agreeing with you re the bigX...

...i seem to recall that shane mumford waltzed straight into the swans uno ruck slot after doing nothing at geelong...

...stranger things have happened......

Mumford played 18 games for Geelong in 09 and showed he could compete at AFL level

...yes he played 18 games...no argument there...

...all he had to do was beat mark blake for a spot in the ruck...

...and mark blake is shite...:thumbsd:...

...stick the bigX in that same Geelong side and i would dare to suggest he would be as competitive as mumford given the quality of that geelong side...;)...

He matched blake in every stat but hitouts and that was only because he was second ruck and got less game time. He was very good in 09 and offered more around the ground than Blake...too bad Thompson was to dumb to notice or he might still be at Geelong.

I've never seen him play so i couldn't comment...

Blake plays for Geelong and he's still shit, i hate the assumption that players will play better in a good side. Duds are duds no matter who they play for. Mumford was good because he is a good player not because of the teammates he had around him, if Derickx is any good then he would play well too.

Bang on. Saw them ruck against each other today and it's fair to say that Graham is head and shoulders above Derickx when it comes to ruck work

Lol @ having Gourids pushing McGuane out of the side aswell. Has to be the most pumped up player on this board whilst showing so little. He has been on our list 3 years and just because he can run and is a good size means he is our best fullback. Unbelievable :o

LOL...

'We'll play a ruckman who'll be lucky to get through 50 mins with half a dozen hitouts, and seeing we'll be getting a lot of first use of the ball out of that set up, we'll be able to leave our only bloke in the league's top-50 tacklers out.'

The lengths people will go to in trying to make their past predictions come true...santa's been sacking Jackson for eight seasons now, I fully expect him to be mapping out mock reserves sides in 2030 which feature Jackson...just out of habit. ;)

By my reckoning the following are in line for Santas A team:
Astbury Browne Conca Connors Cotchin Dea Deledio Derickx Farmer Foley Gourdis Grigg Hicks Houli Martin Moore Morton Post Riewoldt Westhoff

The players in bold are the changes I would make. I know what Santa is getting at in that we need to get games into the kids, I just don't think we should simply play kids because they are kids. If they earn games ahead of already established players then fine.

Edwards was in our best 10 in 2010, let alone best 22, and should only get better.

Graham is still our number 1 ruck, regardless of what Derickx might or might not be, he hasn't played a game yet.

You could make a case that Nason, Taylor, Vickery and Griffiths will all get games again in 2011 regardless of whether they are our "best 22".

And finally, if King maintains his form that he showed in the last month of the year and can kick a goal or two a game as a defensive forward he's easily in our best 22.

I'd suggest it's more about McGuane than Dave given the poster in question.

I'd like to see Santa return and answer some of the questions.
Takes balls to post a side as everyone usually ends up bagging it, but you need to return to defend your decisions.
Over to you santa, or are you busy making presents for all the bad little boys and girls?

Edwards? I'm not a huge fan but seriously he was probably in our top 5 last year.

Graham is our #1 ruck by so far at the moment its not funny. I like Browne, and I think Vickery will develop, but neither of them will be our ruckman next year. And putting faith in Derickx is a bit deluded at this stage (1 average year at WAFL level does not make a career!)

dont worry i will answer some of the questions.
for now lets start on derickx.
im probably one of very few who have actually seen him play on this board.
as stated in other threads i was hopeful of us taking him as a rookie pick.

what does he have that puts him in front of graham. well plenty.

first off hes 23, at this age he has to be ready to play. his age and size and attributes says he should be ready to go.
he may be a first yr afl player but he is mature in both mind and body.
for his size he is a very good mover good in the air and a strong mark. he has mongrel and is a half decent kick of the footy for a ruckman.his attributes and potential is way above that of graham.do i pick a player who i hope is part of the future or a player i know we have to replace at some stage.

his upside well hes had just one season of senior footy and did extremely well in a reasonably strong competion against mostly more mature players.

he may take a season to adapt but he should be adapting in the seniors.

finally my thinking is we are in early rebuild still i reckon its important to play only those or as many of those that is possible that will be part of the long term future.
im not after wins im after development.

on edwards pretty simple really.
if we play him as a forward there are others i would play in front of him in that role.i have to ask what has he done as a small forward.
if we were to play him as a mid well ditto.
as a mid where does he fit in. martin cotchin conca yes conca tuck jackson newman foley morton if hes played there, grigg and deledio in rotations all better options.
i havent written edwards of i just think there are better options for the roles he does. i do expect him to get senior games.

someone mentioned webberley. in all honesty i dont see anything special about him. average at best. i have similar concerns with nason time will tell but imo i think we need to aim higher than both.

am more than happy to go thru the thinking on all players ask away.

You were hoping we would Rookie list him ???? ... and all of a sudden he is a better ruck option than Graham ?

Despite having only playing one year in the Waffle , you have descerned that he is ready to make the quantum leap straight to AFL

Are you his life-coach ?

... Wont argue with that , obviously why we have recruited him

he may take a season to adapt but he should be adapting in the seniors.

Lets let Dimma decide hey :thumbsu:

Edwards on a wing.
Webberley looks more promising than Dea so far. Was very impressed with him against the Hawks
