We are winning the Big Games not only interstate but the testimonial and milestone games and beating the best teams... Cant remember a season for decades where we have done this...even getting challenged late in games and answering that challenge and beating teams...a sign of a good and maturing team....

We have lost 5 games in our last 21 games we are goin ok i think...
and those 5 losses are against Bulldogs, Melbourne, Cats, North and West Coast, and the Eagles are the only loss i'd let slide, because Nic Nat is a freak. The others we should really expect to win, those are the big games we need to focus on. Winning when we should.

But don't get me wrong, i'm very happy where we are now, but there's always room for improvement.

those teams of bulldogs and Melbourne are on the up and will beat alot of good teams on their day...and at the time we had a stack of terrible injuries...anyway that has nothing to do with the thread title.. ..i cant remember a year for decades where we have won so many big games its a sign of growing maturity..

First win against Collingwood since 2007 = big win
Beat Port at Adelaide Oval after last years humiliation = big win
First win in Dreamtime game since 2011 after being embarrassed in the last two = big win
Beat unbeaten ladder leaders on their home deck = big win
First win over Sydney at SCG since 2004 = big win

A lot of these games would give the club a lot of belief that they previously didn't have. A lot of mental demons have been exorcised. Now we need to knock off the North and Geelong hoodoos.

And Melb

Does anyone else feel our year has been not too dissimilar to North Melbourne, who beat top 4 sides but struggled against middle table teams last year or the one before? I can't remember exactly which year it was.

Going off what we've won so far, currently we're on 7 wins.

Looking at what's coming up, I still have to put games against Carlton, Fremantle, Hawthorn, Adelaide, Collingwood and North Melbourne down as unknowns. Yeah we should towel up Carlton but they may pull a few surprises out of the bag in the tail end of the year against not just us but a few other teams as well. Yeah we beat Collingwood and Fremantle already this season but can we do it twice in the same season?

Putting these games down as losses in advance, we end up with 11 wins. Is that enough to be in the top 8 at the end of the season? It could be if the percentage is high enough, but I think the loss against Melbourne may come back to haunt us and is 4 points that we may sorely need come round 20.

I look forward to smashing teams like Carlton and Gold Coast for a nice fat percentage booster, getting a few bonus wins against, perhaps Adelaide and Collingwood and cementing at least 5th spot even if it is on percentage.

We've been winning away against genuine top 4 potential like Freo/Swans.

We have done the "Triple Crown" against Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon. Blues and Bombers may be poorish teams but we won in "finals like" big match athmospheres.

Where we have failed is when at the MCG - at Le Stade Du Tigre - before 90% Richmond crowds....perhaps coincidence or perhaps the team still immature enough to suffocate under the pressure of expectation from home crowd.

If we cant beat Carlton and even Adelaide on the road home we dont deserve to be there. Beat hawthorn or Freo as well as collingwood and kangas on top of those other wins is the only way we will finish in the top 4. But do that and we'll deserve it.
But I've learnt with richmond before not to look too far ahead.

We won the 5 games we should have lost and lost the 5 games we should have won

However, you could argue our current form is very solid. Clearly, the bye had us off our game and a few players had the flu. To only lose to West Coast by 20 points when we were off our game as much as we were in first half against Sydney is a good sign.

We have a no excuse 3 game run coming up followed by 3 tough games. If we want to put together a good season we need to go 6-0 or 5-1 over this period. We need the second chance more than ever so if we stuff up again we can have a second go.

I dont care if we lose to Freo and Hawks in R17 and 18, just as long as we put away the bunny teams like we bloody should be doing. We'll be 10 wins 5 losses with 7 games to go and in a position to make a real assault on the top 4.

Next 3 games are absolutely non-negotiable. GWS, Carltank and Saints we need to win and win comfortably. Only then will be be a definite lock for finals this year. Alternatively if we lose a couple more of the easy games coming up we'll be struggling for 7th or 8th again.

Fate is 100% in our own hands.

GWS, Carlton, St Kilda and Gold Coast (with or without Ablett) are must-win games. At least 2/4 games have to be percentage-boosters from these games, because percentage is also important in both the top 8 and top 4 race, depending on how we go with the other games. Percentage should also come from a few games against the mid-table teams.

Our club does not beat down on the bottom/middle teams much, and that is a key difference between us and the teams around us, such as Collingwood etc. We also don't lose by a landslide often, which is a good thing, but gotta smack a team once in a while.

On the flip-side, we are good in upsetting sides (especially interstate), which is something that we do better than our competitors

I think we lost to West Coast because they didn't have a milestone in that game
Any idea if GWS have one coming up next week?
Yes it is their 79th game in the AFL......They will be fired up for ths milestone
