Warne no bad influence: Saints
by STAFF REPORTERS

St Kilda has denied that Shane Warne is having an undue influence at Moorabbin, despite the club having named only 11 players and a 12th man for this week’s opening round of the season.

Eyebrows have also been raised by the club’s decision to play in an all-white strip and long pants.
But Saints coach Grant Thomas said Warne’s involvement at the club was in no way official, and that he was simply acting in an advisory capacity.

“No, no, Warnie’s not really playing a major role at all,” said Thomas. “He’s just helping a few of the boys come to terms with preparation for sport at the elite level. And providing contacts with some good Indian bookmakers.”

Thomas said Warne had no role in selecting the side, but would be present when the Saints play the Kangaroos at the MCG on Saturday.

“It looks like being a hard deck at the ‘G on Saturday,” said Thomas, “and we reckon we might send them in if we win the toss.”

The Saints team for Saturday’s game is as follows:
Harvey (c)
Burke (c)
Thompson (c)
Hayes (c)
Riewoldt (c)
Gehrig (c)
Peckett (c) (wk)
Hudghton (c)
Ball (c)
Lawrence (c)
Milne (c)
12th man: Capuano
