Talking to a few fans of bulldogs and a few other clubs over the weekend, they all said the reason why Established players were wanting to leave clubs more this trade season is because of "the Brian Lake effect" they saw how BL has transformed his career at Hawks and want to taste the same success.

So my question is there such thing as the Brian Lake effect?

Can't see Ryan Griffin winning a flag.

I don't think Brian was the first player to leave his club in search of success

The Brian Lake effect is more that older players, a year from free agency, are happily traded by their club before they lose them for nothing the next year

I doubt the effect is simply due to a player move. In the Brian Lake + Hawthorn case I feel it's more a case that Brian was the final piece of the premiership puzzle for us. More a case of recruiting for a need rather than blindly taking older star players in a form slump and hoping they'll regain their form with a fresh start.

Stan Alves left Melbourne for North. Played in the 1977 premiership.
Buddy said he left Hawthorn for Sydney for money and winning premierships with Goodesy.
