And previous to that was starting to really get on my nerves. Buddy buddy buddy this. Oh buddy hell I wish this whole buddy stuff would stop. I became sick of hearing it all week!
At least he was kept quiet. 2 goals and 12 disposals. It's good to stick that one up media!:thumbsu:

Buddy was average, as was alot of the hawthorn team and our team too. Hodge was their best player yet it wasnt his best game, made a few mistakes.

crawford was absolute shite. lucky he's such a good bloke:p

Oh yeah I love Crawf :) I'm sure it wasn't the best of games for at least 30/44 players that played yesterday.

Crawf will do pretty good in the media I reckon.

Buddy apparently had a hamstring scan mid week
Kicked with right foot at training
He has no right foot

I thought it would have been more his thumb cos he couldnt take a mark

i rekon crawf will fufill his potential in the media too, unlike what he's done in footy after his career's purple patch

He only kicked 2 but set up 3 or 4 others directly and brought the ball to ground in the 3rd quarter that Rioli crumbed and kicked a goal. Was far, far from the worst.

Ofcourse...

Franklin brought it to ground.

NOT

Scarlett spoiled him.

PS: He only had two goal assists.

You are right, he was far from your worst, but well and truely beaten on the day.

it came of franklins chest, and it was a three-on-one contest, franklin brought it down

No actually. There were 3 other Geelong plays standing in the area but the ball went to Franklin v. Scarlett unhindered 1v1. Franklin had front position, his hands out the ball went to his chest but Scarlett spoiled a certain mark into a waiting Rioli while the Cats players in support stood around. Your statement is basically implying Franklin intentionally didn't go for the mark, instead tapping it to Rioli. Just think about that. There is no shame is giving a defender his due MM.

As for the OP, I honestly think the Buddy hype was somewhat subdued as opposed to most weeks. I was surprised to tell you the truth.

At least we can put all this "OMG, Scarlett never plays on the opposition's best forward and he's rubbish" garbage to bed.

Well done Scarlo - a magnificent game from one of our on-field leaders.

Fair enough Scarlett played on our best forward, but how much of the ball did he have. HAWKS PREMIERS 2008 GO HAWKS

The hype has been there all year. If it isn't the adoring media, it's the fans. I'd be discouraged if I was a player of a team where one person gets 85% of the praise.

No one doubts he's a great goal kicker... but it gets almost sickening when commentary on a player becomes a season-long biography advertisement.

He'll get a big head. Who knows, maybe he already has.

In any case, his last two games weren't anything 'buddy brilliant'.

May I just say how impressed I was with the way Franklin conducted himself post game. Gave due credit to the performance of his minder, and was just very humble about the win going by his responses during interviews. I think he is for the most part a genuine bloke with good intentions who just loves footy. What will make people hate him is the media's over- exposure of him, which would be a shame because that isn't his fault.

You arent the only one. Hawks Fans hate all that Media shit as well.. it drives us crazy. Scarlett kept Buds quiet but he did manage 2 goals; our highest goal scorer was 3. Franklin himself shouldnt be discredited because of what those clueless reporters concoct about him.

Scarlett was excellent, however Franklin played injured. To be directly involved in four Grand Final goals at the age of 21 is a great effort. His presence is undoubted and he takes the best defender. Has been playing as a decoy of late in light of his injuries, and delivered nicely. What is most impressive about Franklin is his ability to kick that important goal when we need it most. He delivered again on Grand Final day, once in the third, and a very very important run on goal in the last. Hawthorn's upside is scary.

Are they the youngest team since the baby bombers? Or atleast thereabouts?

Great post and is very true. The media love him. Of course the fans are going to over hype him (especially when the media pump him up) but at least now the rest of the intelligent Footy community (which rules out most of the media) can get off the 1 player team idea that some had spread.

I thought it funny after the media basically had a go at Hawthorn for having 2 spear heads and not an even enough range of goal kickers, after the GF the talk was Geelong need to find a Forward option. Just another confirmation that the media are more fickle then the ficklest fans!

what was with him getting extra security guards at the grand final parade? That was a bit over the top, sending a message that we don't give a toss about anyone else (even though I am sure the AFL arranged it???) - one of them didn't take his hand off the Hilux! Buddy looked a bit embarrassed to have 3 of them standing so close....

Scarlett did a good job on him.

The great thing for the hawks was that Scarlett didn't have the luxury of running off Buddy - which was great.

I've been getting used to Buddy smashing his opponents in 1-on-1s this year but it hasn't come off the last couple of weeks.

A thumb injury combined with 2 very very good opponents has seen his output down to 3 goals in two weeks. (worst 2 game stretch for the season maybe???)

But yeah, he did set up 2 goals that he could have (and normally would have) kicked him self. Also, I do thing he set Rioli up, hard to tell because the camera showed the contest from behind. All up, I'd call buddy a contributor. Not a matchwinner and definitely not a passenger. Scarlett won the contest but didn't deliver his usual attacking weapon. Nil-all-draw?
