All the talk over reforming the fixture into 3 groups of 6 for the last rounds of the season got me thinking.

Why not do this for the rounds leading up to, during and immediately after the bye rounds?

The six teams with the bye in the same round have a 5 round round-robin around their week off so as you are always playing a team in the same situation.
Currently teams with an early bye can "leave nothing in the tank" against teams who have two more weeks until their bye, rested teams playing against teams yet to have a bye, etc.

At least it would be a small step towards making such a compromised fixture just a little bit fairer.
