Prediction The Bye

Kids certainly need the bye.
Interesting that we have not given a week off to manage SPS, Weitering, Marchbank or Plowman so far this year.
Charlie had a week off early this year and has certainly come back better for it.
Fisher started a week or two later, was injured, a match in the VFL I think then back into the Seniors.
Willa started in the Seniors round 3 and could just about make it through to the end of the season.
Macreadie exceeded expectations with the first 5 Senior matches, the rest then VFL then good VFL form since and back for the North match.
Harry and Kerr have each had a week off in the VFL too.
Cuningham played right through in VFL I think and now in Seniors.
Polson the one Senior match and quiet in VFL before hitting his straps.
Pickett certainly rested / managed so hopefully he is good to go in 2018.

Have no idea who we'll see against GWS, but all being well, we'll see Byrne back soon enough.
We'll also be getting more games into Polson & Boekhorst and we will see the debut of Mckay.
Keep playing the young guys also, unless they're physically shot.

Looks more and more likely that we'll see the team we had hoped we'd see by years end.

Simpson ASilvagni Byrne
Docherty Marchbank Plowman
Kreuzer Cripps Murphy
Cuningham Gibbs SPS
CCurnow Weitering ECurnow
Wright Casboult Silvagni
Williamson, Fisher, Macreadie & McKay/Jaksch/Polson/Pickett/Boekhorst/Kerr

Can't do much about Rowe being injured, so ASilvagni takes his place.
No offence to White, Armfield, Thomas & Kerridge, but they're not going to take us forward, whilst Smedts & Palmer don't fit, for now.

I know we're second last right now, but that may not matter as much next year.........and just quietly.......SOS may be happy.

Getting those first 20 games into the kids is invaluable and CFC has the breathing room to do it atm. Its like restoring a car .... you can bog and spray or cut out piece by piece and mig weld new steel in .....

The end result of that resto car will be miles apart.

I'm going to use this thread as an opportunity to give mid-season report card on a few things and maybe everyone else might want to add theirs:

These are only opinions/predictions and based on nothing other than what I've seen and read

Leading Best and Fairest: Marc Murphy. Recent weeks have seen Doc, Crippa and Gibbs closing in as well. Dark horse would be Kreuzer.
All-Australian/s: At the moment I can only see Doc getting a guernsey. I have no idea how other rucks are performing, but if Kreuzer keeps playing like this he might be hard to ignore. Murphy might be a chance for the bench.
Most Improved: Of players on the list last year, I can't go past Kreuze. Surely this is the best first half of a season he's had.
Best first-year at Carlton: Marchbank.
Best 2016 draftee: Pretty much neck and neck between Samo and Williamson, but given where Williamson was picked I'll give him the edge.

Overall from a list perspective, it has been mainly positive without getting better results. We have seen some exciting quarters from the team this year that I don't recall to many like them from 2016. Once we start stringing 4 quarters together, lookout.
If I had to pick one negative, it would be Weitering's form. But if anyone is going to learn from it and come out a better player it's that guy.

The bye has come at the perfect time for us.

Our youngsters have shown plenty thus far in 2017, but fatigue has noticeably caught hold of a couple over the past few weeks - SPS and Williamson in particular.

A fortnight off will do wonders for them. Looking forward to seeing what they can do in the second half of the year.

On a more serious note, SOSOS has been a bit quiet of late and hasn't had a 'huge' game this year unfortunately although he's had some pretty good games...still slightly built and has looked a little sore/slow lately. Happy to see him play AFL but equally as happy to see him play a few VFL games this year.

Macreadie as well should probably play mostly VFL the rest of this year...no shame in that as a 1st year KPD. Especially if we keep Weitering back, we were way too top heavy vs North imo and Macreadie didn't really do much or have a clear role. Give Jones a crack after the bye.

Wright has been a bit disappointing since the Collingwood game basically. But we know what he CAN do and he provides a bit of extra leadership in our very young forward line so not sure we can afford to drop him yet. If we dropped him for someone like Pickett/Polson, Casboult would be our only senior player up there and he sometimes plays in the ruck...recipe for disaster really. Wouldn't mind seeing him dropped for Thomas, who can play forward/mid.
The dust has settled and we are 17 th to Brisbane.
Still think we can get 7 wins but wont equate to 13th on ladder this year.....dont really see us running over too many from here on the ladder besides Lions or maybe North or Suns?.

Our list is still dodgy.....i know its early and we are flat out for what we have achieved so far,we all hopefully know its going to take more than a couple years for finals ie.maybe a top 8.i see us at 17-15th on ladder and we can draft well and try and get a few good trades in.
PALMER- disappointing?
JAKSCH- touch and go
BUCKLEY touch and go
BOEKHORST disappointing
ROWE old and injured
WHITE old
LAMB touch and go
THOMAS maybe at mates rates at this stage
JONES possible
GORRINGE didnt know he was still at club

there is plenty on this list even missing a few

SOS will be active again.

Reckon Fev's been putting his hand up (no, not there) lately, wouldnt hurt to have an (XXL) big body around JSOS...

Not bad.I agree with weiters I think his got second year blues and also is injured bye will do him good and I'm convinced now he is a natural backman.

Laurence Angwin has been in good form lately, get him in whilst he's on such a high.

Oh what might've been.

Never forget when he played in Perth against West Coast, and was lining up a set shot from @ 50 on an angle. Decided to side step the guy on the mark and slotted it post high. Not bad for a 200cm guy.

Pity he was so ****ed in the head.

Just realised the excessive break for the VFL side. This is absurd. AFL need to cop some heat for this fiasco. Simply not good enough kids like Harry don't get to play games for so many days. Completely unprofessional.

They played a practice game against Werribee last weekend and are having a week bye like the rest of the club this week. I think it's worked okay... VFL fixtures have been a hot topic for a few years now.
