He may not be in our best 22, he is on 76 games and may not make 100. But ....

In a year where we have had a lot of dissapointment, angst, division etc The Caff has stood tall. Whether leading by example in the VFL, providing moral and emotional support to blokes like Schazz and Ramsay, being the commentator with specs on Lyle Street or providing a cameo like last weekend against Shaw who is a shoe in for AA.

He embodies side by side. Just look at the love shown by his teammates when he slotted that goal or the admiration shown by Cloke when discussing him.

I love the Caff, I am so happy that when he finishes his career he can say I played for Collingwood when they won the premiership.

Go the Caff

For a guy with limited ability.. he did ok.. cbf going through his stats but didn't he kick 30 goals or thereabouts in 2010.. and he had a good stint as a tagger.. most memorable game from caf was when he ripped cotchin to shreds.. and cotchin the finals specialist wombat and the rich fc complained about it.. waaa waaa waaa.

Yep but still love the Caff

Same feeling with him as for the 'veterans' Goldsack and Brown.
Fantastic players, servants of the club and they are great to help the kids but falling short of next seasons best 22.

Kicked 16 in 2010.

Brown will be best 22 for the next five years. Nice try though.

He would be the hardest to drop but the big IF: will his body hold up. Don't get me wrong, love the man, actually all 3 of them, but injuries haven't been kind to either of them.

Forgot to mention that during the GWS game he was doing a lot of talking to the forwards and marshalling them around. Real leadership.
Will always love the Caff. Hope he hangs around the club when his time is up.

I'm still on the fence about Caff. Clearly he's down on his best but then that's hardly surprising given the injuries he's faced and I'm not convinced that he couldn't get back to his best. To me the biggest question is where his head is at. If he still has the fire and is determined to get back to it then I see no reason why that's not possible. Even at 85% his leadership is highly valuable. Of course the question of having the fire is the big "IF". My suspicion is that at the end of the year he will sit down with the club and they will collectively determine whether he has that fire. If he does then it won't surprise me one bit if he has the capability to become best 22 again. Time will tell.

Article on AFL site he indicates that he loves the club and wouldn't mind another year.

At his best how do you rate him compared to Greenwood?

They are a bit different in style
Caff at his best was that old fashioned tagger, not concerned about his own possessions, just shutting down his opponent
Levi, is your more modern "run with" player, partly nullifying his man and partly working off him with possessions

Firstly any Collingwood premiership player 1 game or 300 games respect. :thumbsu:
secondly we need to be careful not to do a Melbourne and get rid of all our senior players in one hit. what Goldsack, Caff, Toovey, Brown, Blair and Cloke bring in leadership and experience cannot be measured in kicks and handballs. will one or two go, most likely but I'd rather keep the others on even as " list Cloggers " because those " list Cloggers " can teach the kids Hard work and what it takes to win a flag

love the caff, injuries have made him loose a step but you can see why he is in the leadership group
gives it all on and off the field. that said will be lucky to get one more year.
cannot move to many of the older brigade on, they needs to be phased out over time.
as maggie5 said no kneed to lose to much experience at once. so caff and toovey, are my
choice to be retired at years end

Great team man.
Premiership player.
And the beard.... Just a life force of its own.
We salute you Caff.

Can we get him to 100 games for potential future players.... (Ok that's more tongue in cheek)

There are differences but Caff has shown over his career he has had a few strings to his bow. Right now he has not reached the point that he has his confidence and speed fully back. Not that he was ever notably fast but I think his injuries have cruelled him in that area and a little bit of hesitancy was evident last week. I'm not convinced that it's the end for him yet but right now I think that Greenwood outshines him in a few areas. That said, I think that Caff is probably more of a leader at this stage but Greenwood has time still to grow into that. If I were choosing between them I think it would be dependent on their likely opponent. I doubt that Greenwood would have had as much impact on a big bodied player like Shaw whereas I'd prefer to see Greenwood on a smaller, faster opponent.

Caff played a few great shutdown roles but hasn't done too much else of note.

Got the most out of himself and loved by teammates, similar to Maxy in a way. Have to wonder where he'd be without his ACL problems
