Defensive forward is what he does best. Hasnt played that role for years due to injury. Would love to see him run the season out taking out the oppositions most creative defender and choking the supply upfield. Shaw was shut down last week.

Love the Caff. Keep doing what you do best and force the club to re-sign you for another year!!

The epitome of a good ordinary football. Its remarkable that he's remained in the system a decade and he thoroughly deserves the life membership he'll receive, however he's at the end of the road for the senior team.

I hope he hangs them up at years end then moves into a role with the VFL team. Ripper bloke and the type we need to retain in some capacity.

Please no. He's as slow as a wet week, has no penetration in his kicking and scraps far too much to continue in that role. Last week's effort on Shaw was a pass yet it robbed us of any offence from one of our forward 6. Had we not got the easy supply from our mids I shudder to think of what Shaw could have done.

He no doubt gets Brodie Smith or Rory Laird this week who will be expecting him so it's a huge test with Fasolo not likely to be sidelined for long, Greenwood preferred as a shutdown mid, Aish doing a ripper job on Scully and Broomhead waiting in the wings.

Some know what he has had to endure just to able to get on the field, one day his full story will be told, it is astounding
There is a reason he is so well liked by the players, there is a reason he was put into the Leadership Group

I swear if I posted this there'd be posters demanding I fess up and then thinking he'd pumped himself full of steroids because they assume the only news I get is negative.

doodles98 I think I figured it out and it's not Sinclair!

You seem to be confused by my post. Defensive forward is what he does best and in case you hadnt noticed, kicking a big score was not an issue last week so his defensive pressure did not reduce our ability to score. And he kicked one himself in typical style, out of congestion. I'm not sure he will stay there but if he can shut down opponents like last week and indeed 2010 then there definitely is an opportunity for him to prove everybody wrong.

I'm not saying hes best 22, I'm just saying i'd love it if he could prove he was.

When he kicked the goal against GWS the players got around him like he'd just won them a GF!

Not really i think it's yourself that's gotten twisted around because I didn't disagree that it's the best role for him I do however completely disagree with the "keep doing what he's doing and force the club to re-sign him". I pointed out the big score was a result of no pressure through the middle of the ground of which Caff played no role in.

What he's done is one week of a pass mark after a few very poor showings early year. If that sort of form forces the club into resigning him it's a backward step, IMO. Some will agree others won't. I do hope something happens for him to become clear best 22 because that's for the betterment of our senior line up, but we've seen little yet to suggest that's currently the case.

Its a toast thread. I didnt make any statements that werent tinged with a bit of bias or hope or general respect. As per the general theme of toast threads.

I know what he can do and I hope can can do it regularly. Not sure why you are arguing with me about what I'd like to see.

Hah I'm actually surprised you quoted me considering you generally don't to avoid a reply. Anyway again you seem to be off track. I was disagreeing with the assertion that doing what he does best would force the club to re-sign him.

Also I'm sorry I was unaware that posters were unable to disagree in toast threads. I'll remember that for the next time I'm discussing a professional footballers ability to play football on a football forum lol.

As soon as Laird came out for the Crows, Caff was surplus to requirements. Last night was his bow out I think, unless they give him a farewell game in our lost home game. Not playing Williams really cost us; he could have shut down Eddie.

Eddie was kept Fairly Quiet by Maynard

He may not be in our best 22, he is on 76 games and may not make 100. But ....

In a year where we have had a lot of dissapointment, angst, division etc The Caff has stood tall. Whether leading by example in the VFL, providing moral and emotional support to blokes like Schazz and Ramsay, being the commentator with specs on Lyle Street or providing a cameo like last weekend against Shaw who is a shoe in for AA.

He embodies side by side. Just look at the love shown by his teammates when he slotted that goal or the admiration shown by Cloke when discussing him.

I love the Caff, I am so happy that when he finishes his career he can say I played for Collingwood when they won the premiership.

Go the Caff

Couldn't agree more he's a champ, and i will always remember when he decaffeinated Cotchin.

Why was it obvious to everyone except buckley!!??

At the end of a career he certainly got the most out of given his wretched run with injuries. Just looked way too slow last night.

You could see what he was trying to do, but unfortunately his body (pace, agility) couldn't keep up with his mind to impact contests. I like that we gave Macaffer the chance to show his worth to the senior side, as a great club man and through great VFL form he certainly deserved it.

For the first time this year Caff got double digit possessions.

Good summation

Besides the Buckley remark, I'm guessing his VFL form warranted a recall all things considered. He's played a couple of senior games, might be time to draw the curtain.

Not everyone and typical hindsight reaction. We had that discussion pre match. Put Williams in and unsettle the defense structure? Had Williams shown enough to get called up? Let Williams earn his spot now that defense is gelling nicely.
Whether Goldsack or one of youngsters should have played instead of Caff, not much difference to the end result.
