The official carlton website www.carltonfc.com.au has continued to improve each year.

Amongst other things, 2012 saw the launch of The Blue Print and the associated Hangout. These programmes provided extended opportunities for Carlton supporters to gain insights into the issues and key people of Carlton. Gregg Swann has already said that they have committed to these programmes for 2013 which is great.

I am assuming that the Carlton FC media department read the CarltonBigfooty pages. As a Carlton supporter, what suggestions do you have that Carlton FC could implement next year? What are your likes and dislikes from 2012?

My preference is for quality over quantity.

I thought The Carlton Podcast was a flop this year. Bring back the imformality of a player based podcast like Jammo's Junk. Jammo's Junk was great precisely because it wasn't 'brought to you by Europcar' and didn't have stupid 'news breaks'. There was more banter and it actually felt like it was post-training locker room talk.

Special thanks must also go out to The Wookie http://www.youtube.com/user/Navyblue95 for the countless hours spent compiling external media featuring Carlton material. He/She is a God among mortals and I'm sure there are countless people including myself who are extremely grateful.

disclaimer: if a similar thread already exists then please feel free to merge this with it.

TheWookie is Andy Collins like!

Aesthetically the website is nicer, but player profiles etc are horrible. It would be insanely confusing for people who don't follow the club religiously.

Tony Moclair etc were great but Jamo's Junk with Wiggins especially was awesome, yet I'd love a show like Gold Coast's Favourite Suns or Collingwood's Black and White show.

Michelle, Alison and Luca are great at what they do and I get the feeling sometimes they are told not to bother the guys too much which is a shame.

The Carlton website is still based off that shocking template that the AFL handed around to the clubs a couple of years back. There has been slow improvement in it, but I would love to see a whole new look and feel to the website with more social media interaction.

the iamcarlton.com.au website is good... just what the doctor ordered really. We just need to get away from all that big pond bullshit branding...

If the club wants, I can give them one of my spare domain hosting slots.

As with all things Telstra-tainted, it reeks of greedy chaos. Too many blocks, lines and tables. Too many random, ugly ads all trying to grab attention. Too busy. No shape. No sense of flow or form. Too much info, not enough sense. Once the designer's B samples are tested they should be run out of town on a rail.

All AFL websites are being redeveloped by the AFL's internal team, they were meant to be launched in March / April this year but were severely delayed so I assume they will be launched prior to the 2013 season.

I got to take a look at the Richmond website earlier in the year and from memory the website looked a lot more modular, meaning it looked as though features could more easily be shifted around the page and that horrible bigpond video player was being replaced by a serious video platform. I remember someone from the club posting a link to a survey they held earlier this year relating to the new website in regards to Information architecture and structure of the website menu.

They still have the shitty bigpond branding at the top and bottom of the page (since they paid a lot of money for it) but, they have nothing to do with the website other than that.

My main issue with the Carlton website is their coverage of the Northern Blues, or indeed the lack of it.

Many AFL clubs go to greater lengths on a weekly basis to inform their supporters on the progress of their VFL affiliate, as well as the AFL-listed players who took the field.

Carlton, for the most part, has completely neglected that, which is disappointing. I raised this issue a while back, and to their credit it did improve to a certain degree (which makes me wonder if someone from the club actually does read this board...), but really it's not enough.

It's not hard to get someone down there to watch the game and write a proper report afterwards, with comments (and even stats) about the AFL listed players. It's a simple thing to do and I think it would be much appreciated by all who can't attend.

The other issue I have, and this one is relatively minor, is that the website maintenance team seem to be very slow in some respects. We've officially made a number of changes to the playing list, which have been in effect for a number of weeks now, but certain players remain that are no longer with us. Perhaps it's pedantic, but once again this isn't something that takes a whole lot of time to rectify. As an extension, it wouldn't hurt to sort out who is on the rookie & senior list. I understand that they made the effort to put any elevated rookies onto the senior list, but for the sake of clarity it's time to rectify that now.

i agree with jeramias' comment regarding coverage of northern blues players on the carlton fc websites.

what makes it worse is the northern blues website is next to useless... ie: it shares more in common with a poster than a website

the northern blues video highlights are good but would like to see one each week. also some footage of important pieces of general play would be nice rather than just showing the goals.

Completely agree with you.
You'd think it to be edited by someone who doesn't know football at all.
The footage is better than nothing but the final package does seem to be put together in a very lazy fashion.

I recall doing a club survey in respect to the website which gave me the impression the build was going to be geared towards the fans' wants.
As someone had already mentioned here, we can probably expect something new prior to seasons start.

a whole new, much better website was ready to go the start of this year, trust me. Sadly the club's hands are tied by pigpond.

the northern blues videos aren't too bad, i'd like it to be updated a bit quicker as with many many other things on our site.

I like the player interviews.

Sadly, even though they would be easy to do, they are few are far between.

if they change the website i hope they maintain the ability to sort players according to height, weight, age, games played etc...

hawthorn changed their website and it's annoying and tedious to look at their list as a whole and to check the matchups when we play them.

afl.com.au has been reskinned with a lighter scheme.

carltonfc to follow?

The CFC website should follow soon enough.

It's hardly a radical visual departure from where it was, but it's O.K. I guess.
They'll be rolling out new features in time but having the larger video player is a good start on its own.
