Play on Chaffey.

Need this man in the side next year.

I can see us wanting Raines or Newman moving into a midfield role next season, therefor we need Chaffeys type down back. Raines, Chaffey and newman play a similar game (at different levels yes) and I think it is important we utilize the talents of Raines or newman through the middle as thats where we lack the magic.

Chaffey is a good player. Cant hit a target, always on the bottom of the packs. The amount of hits he takes that we just dont see. He has undisputably worked his butt off to get back into the senior team, and has held his spot ever since. As I said in a thread last week I would see him running laps of Punt Road oval while I shuffled into the MCG earlier this season. He could have put ona suit and went and watched the game but he just worked and worked.

I know Rory Hilton played the final 11 games once cracking the side again (and was one of our top goal scorers in the second half of the season, may have even been 2nd if I remember correctly) so just because Chaffey is playing doesnt mean he is a shoe in for a spot, but I think that Terry would be crazy not to give him atleast another season. Sets up alot of plays off half back and has a motor, runs the wings and can set up well from the stopages on the half forward line as well.

Ive talked him up here, because I think that he is in our best 22. He isnt keeping a kid out because he plays a role and plays it well, and offers more than putting an underdone kid in. That is the only reason why I think people would want him gone. he is far from an unskilled player and loves the club. Good clubman is Chaffey.

Its been done alot I know but what are your thoughts on Chaffeys position in the team? What do you think he can offer us as a player going forward? If you dont like him in the side please give reasons why.

he's a tryer and did well early in his career, but I think we have alot of better young midsized players and enough depth. I think we need to free up some space on our list and he might be one to make way. If he was asked to make way I think it would be good to have him at the club next year in some other form. Been a tryer for the Tiges for 10 years almost

Yeah I see what your saying MT and respect your posts but id like to see Chaff get another year to atleast make the players below him force their way into the side. He is good enough to play every week for us and rather than make way id love to see him be fighting for a spot with some young guys. Players like Oakley Nicolls, Roach and others who play his type of spot.

I wish there was a bit more respect for Chaffey about the Richmond community because your right, he has been a real tryer and is great for the club.

haha who is this clown?

telling me im the worst post like EVER:rolleyes:

and then this guy wants to keep the biggest dud of the frawley era

CHAFFEY!!!

said it before, will say it again

NFI:thumbsu:

Only keep him if Gaspar goes, but even then I'd rather he left so we could have an additional rookie list spot to give a more mature kid a shot

we have the bowdens in the backline which is enough experience and its time we got our young KP backman set for the next few years

look at freo's backline

mundy,johnson,dodd, peake etc

If he hadn't have gotten OP we would not even need to think twice about keeping him. Used to be an absolute gun tagger. However, we now have the best tagger in the league in Sugar, and chaff is now too slow to do anything except sit in the back pocket and bludge. I think we should keep him next year for experience, but if he doesnt do anything spectacular next year hes gone.

Is this serious? When Newman and Thurstfield are back and Hartigan, Casserly, JON etc take their places in the 22... Chaffey will be sent into oblivion....and good...he is part of the OLD richmond ...gimme the new any day.

Chaff played a couple of goods seasons for us a few years back and since returning this year he has played ok. But the pace of the game has passed him by and he isn't tall enough to play the role he has. In this era of 190cm flankers he gets outmarked more often that he used to. Time to move on.

We will have White, Hartigan, JON and Casserley all battling for a similar spot in the team next year (it will be tough to get in the team once Newman and Cogs are back), i therefore see no reason to keep Chaffey.
