The Clinton Decision: GAWN!!!

I always believed that Young was a happy Hawk and we stood by him during his injury plagued times...

Do you think that he copped a massive spray after the GF??

Should have been a few bigger sprays delivered to players if he copped one. Still, I was surprised at the level of hate on here after the game. Maybe he had a look see and just wondered why he should bother.

On the loyalty issue. Yes, the club has stood by him, and I would say for several practical reasons. For example, until Smith and Hill and others can force him outta the side. Until he regained fitness and form and offered SOME trade value.( I note that there seems to be a fair bit of interest from other BF memebers, and I expect clubs). Theres a long list, but Geez, im just flabergasted. I have no doubt he still has his best footy ahead of him. Just because he's declared his loyalty, it doesn't mean he has to accept whatever the club throws at him. We don't know what offer the club has made him. I think back to the circumstances of Dermie (anyone doubt his loyalty?) leaving the club. Was offered a fraction of his previous payments. Offerred so low, even given his form, injuries, and the clubs financial position, that he was forced to leave. Similar with JK3. Offered a 1 yr contract when muppets and spuds on our list, destined to never play in the 1s were given longer contracts to play at Box Hill. That had nothing to do with loyalty, it was politely being told to F off. Hope we dont find out down the track Youngy left because after declaring his loyalty, the club thought it could pay him peanuts.

Anyone questioning his hardness, I would have it streets ahead of Ellis, Suckling, Savage, Smith, Hill. These are the type of uncompetitve little bodies that cannot create, let alone win contested footy when things get tough. I know Statton is held in high regard, but I think in some of the later games he was pretty light on and didnt go hard enough. I'd lump him in with the soft bodied group above right at the moment. Sure, he's a different type player and could outsmart, or subtly out position rather than outmuscle, but times come when he has to go hard. Clinton has left that pack well behind now, and people ought to acknowledge he's hardened up. As well, people maybe ought to remind themselves of all the other shit efforts from the GF before they write Youngy off as the scapegoat for that loss.
(BTW, the players I listed, maybe with the exception of Ellis and Hill, they will harden up as Clinton has done).

Wouldn't like to see him at the Pies. Should talk him down and remind them of the Lonie similarities before they get too carried away.

He should have.. Can't believe the lack of criticism he's copped in the media for that effort...

Have really enjoyed watching him in full flight for the Hawks over the years but good luck to the guy. We'll be fine without him.

There is no small amount of irony that rushd behinds were integral to the Hawks beating the Cats in 08 which caused the rule to be changed and a non-rushed behind may have cost the Hawks the 2012 premiership

Its also ironic that since the rule change players often don't rush the ball over despite being under considerable pressure (ala Young) which is fine.

The ball is in the players court though he might tell Collingwood do a trade or I'm signing with Brisbane, if Collingwood truly want him than we could see a trade of picks, though I doubt that would happen.

Not sure I understand your reasoning. If he wants to go to Collingwood why would he tell us to trade for him?

Maybe he realises that we kept him on our list and paid him well for 2 years when he did nothing and was injured most the time and he thinks now that he should repay the club and ensure they get something out of his departure?

If he is leaving then he will have loyalty only to the club he is going to. This is free agency - get used to it.

easy champ i wasn't having a go, was just trying to give something back to your question which someone else started. I would assume young would just go and not care about the compensation for the hawks.

Not having a go either mate.

It would be nice if this possible scenario with Clinton Young was a trade. At least that way we know that the Hawks would be suitably compensated, theoretically!!. Given that this is not the situation, unfortunately the Hawks would just have to cop whatever compensation the AFL deem as suitable. Don't get me wrong, I love Youngy and I certainly don't want to see him go and definitely not to Collingwood, but this is the way of the AFL world now and we just have to suck it up. And until there is rock solid evidence that he is leaving, I'll keep an open mind about it all.

End of second round I'd say for young...

Fair result for a one sided, soft outside player, who can't tackle, bounce the pill, nor hit a target, although he at least burns the ball 60m+ downfield.....

For all his downsides at his best he can be a very damaging player. I'm torn about whether it's the best thing for the club to let him go as it will allow someone else to develop such as Savage who's flaws aren't as noticeable as Youngs and has the potential to be a more rounded and versatile player, however I know I will hate watching him run out against us in another clubs jersey pumping the ball 60m into our defensive 50.

Sorry for barging in on your board (I posted this on the Carlton board),

I heard last night, from a very decent source that Hawthorn are expecting him to stay.
The phrase used was "fabric of the club" kind of guy.

His family is very much involved with the club too, apparently.

Well I heard today from people who are Close to Clinton that he is Told Hawks he is Out and Collingwood is his Choice.

Not saying you are Lying because you may be Correct but I am hearing from Sources something much Different

No problems there now mate - we've got Lake!

I think his brother loves the club more than he does.

Surely we won't let him go to the Pies without "fair" compo. Better to pay him extra and keep him rather than lose a starting 22 player for bugger all - would be a major step backwards.
There are plenty of other players to delist/trade to free up cap space and retain Young.
Pies would need to offer a 2nd rounder at a minimum you'd think.

My preference is for Dasher to remain in brown & gold but if he feels his best opportunity for the future is with the pies then I wish him luck. Have enjoyed his runs down the wing, booming kicks and his first half in the 08 decider was his best performance for our club.
If he goes I have full confidence that Wright & Co will make the best out of whatever we receive in return and that the likes of Hill, Schneider, Frank or Durea will grab the opportunity with both hands and have a positive impact on our club.
