As I posted on the main board, Shuey re signed this year, although I am unsure of the length of the contract.

Pretty sure it was to 2013, take him out of GWS's way. Heard a report during the year we wanted to sign him up to an extra 2 yr extension, on top of his initial contract (possibly plus extension) ending in 2011. Strangely the media never reported that he had signed, just that we wanted him to??????

Star West Coast Eagles defender Shannon Hurn is the first key signing of 2011 after agreeing to a new deal with the club on the eve of the season.

Hurn, 23, is an important player in the club’s future and has signed a three-year extension of his existing contract, aligning him to the club until the end of the 2014 season.

It is a barren period that has frustrated Butler and left the 25-year-old thinking it could end his spell at the Eagles last year (2010).

Instead, Butler signed a two-year contract, having been given another chance to buck the unlucky trend that has characterised his AFL career.

Hmmm... I would have thought Shuey would be locked away. I'm surprised WCE only gave him a one year contract. Maybe they wanted him to prove he isn't the world's most unluckiest person after all, and was physically capable of stringing together 20+ games in a season? Someone posted he's got the flu now...lol.

Also, you've got Phillip Walsh's contract having expired at the end of last season. Given that the other coaches' contracts are up at the end of 2011, I'd hazard a guess that he would have been given a 1 year contract extension, so that if things went south this year, and a new head coach was brought in, then he could appoint all of his own coaching staff. I have zero evidence that Walsh is on a 1 year contract, but it would seem logical.

Oh and you don't have David Teague, our backline coach, listed either. Maybe he is also on a one year contract to fall in line with the other coaches' contracts? Just a guess.

I found it a little too convenient that all of our "unknown contracts" are 1 year deals, when logic would suggest that they probably aren't.

For example, would we give 1 year deals to Shuey (!) and Schofield and 1 year deals to our rookie upgrades (Wilson and Stevenson)? I suspect not. Sure, maybe for 1 or 2 of them, but all 4? Unlikely. Still, I'll put it up, with a slight compromise, if it's okay.

Also, with the coaches, it's almost impossible to keep up with contracts so they're very much all over the place.

Other seasoned Eagles out of contract at the end of 2011 are Matt Priddis, Beau Waters and Brett Jones, while prized midfielder and ex-Victorian Luke Shuey is understood to head the list of younger players coming out of contract. South Australian Brad Ebert is another well-performed youngster who will be out of contract at season's end, along with Mitch Brown, Will Schofield, Eric McKenzie, Brad Dalziell and Callum Wilson.

I had been thinking the same thing too, that it all seemed "a little too convenient." I could understand Schofield and even Wilson and Stevenson being on 1 year deals (spur them to bring out their best and to really prove their worth), but surely not Shuey. The thing that gave it all some credibility though was that the writer does quote Vozzo.

Here's another source, that basically just refers to the original The Age article, but references Vozzo talking to The Age, so you would think the original journo has his facts right considering he had the opportunity to get them straight from the horse's mouth. The journo loses a little credibility though by misspelling Eric Mackenzie and Bradd Dalziell.

Time will reveal all I guess.

Oh and here's confirmation that Darling's contract is until the end of 2012:
