We don't seem to able to win the close ones. In fact, I'm struggling to remember many close ones we've won. The mind immediately goes to WI in Adelaide (lost by 1 run) & screams past games when we've lost by 2 runs, 3 runs, 5 runs, 10 runs, 1 wicket, 2 wickets etc etc.

I remember Thommo getting us over the line against India in 1977, but I can't remember too many other tight ones we've won.

Can anybody refresh my memory, or are we just good at comprehensive wins?
Sydney test against India with clarke taking the final few wickets - 07/08?

Edit- although its not exactly a close win or loss scenario. Was always going to be a win or draw

Yes, that's it. I vividly remember Whitney & McDermott holding out for a draw against Hadlee in 87, but that's not a win either.

yep frustratingly we always seem to get done in the thrlllers
though chasing 310 against S Africa at Wanderers in 2011 was a great win; esp as we needed 18 with only 2 wickets in hand and debutant Cummins at the crease. Remember Nathan Lyon shitting himself in the dressing room at the prospect of batting

Thank you. I knew there would have to be one somewhere. There was another against South Africa in 1997 when Cronje was captain & we won by 2 wickets. We scored 108 in the first innings, needed 270 in the second & were under pressure when Cronje put himself on & Healy hit him for 6 over midwicket to win the test.

Cronje....... hmmm.

I imagine the CA will want to shut Mickey up before all is revealed so I would expect it to be settle out of court rather quickly.

THE Australian cricket team in England has been rocked by explosive allegations of racial discrimination and also in-fighting between Test captain Michael Clarke and all-rounder Shane Watson.

Sacked coach Mickey Arthur has reportedly made the claims amidst his bid for up to $4 million in compensation, alleging he was discriminated against because of his South African background.
And another damning allegation from Arthur is his alleged claim of a bitter faction in the team led by Watson who has been often at loggerheads with Clarke.
According to a Channel Seven report tonight, Arthur allegedly described the role of Watson's faction in the Test team as a cancer.

Arthur claimed that Clarke embraced the need for discipline, while Watson did not.
Arthur also revealed Watson was the player who tipped him off about Dave Warner's rowdy night out where the Australian opener punched England batsman Joe Root in the head at a bar.
Warner was subsequently fined $11,500 and suspended from the tour matches leading into the Ashes.
Arthur, who is seeking substantial compensation or job back, has also insisted he was not supported by his Cricket Australia employers through the "homeworkgate" affair in India.
Then vice-captain Watson, bowlers James Pattinson and Mitchell Johnson and batsman Usman Khawaja were axed from the third Test in Mohali for failing to complete a team survey.
Seven also reported Arthur felt he was discriminated against due to his South African background and because he "didn't understand the Australian way".
Cricket Australia's legal counsel Dean Kino said of Arthur's claims: "We are disappointed it has come to this position. I am sure that it will get resolved in an appropriate fashion."

Gee way to burn your bridges Arthur! meh we all knew Watson was a dick and Clarke didn't like him. Whinging about not having support for homework gate is understandable for everyone but Arthur. I wouldn't pay him a cent.
Twatson

ICC's official response re the DRS in the first test were Don Watson weasel words.

Completely avoided the issue.

Starc bowled well in 2nd innings, so a little stiff, though am a fan of Harris so not too concerned.

great footage of players walking through the long room. so bizarre!

Starc is a really good bowler. He surely would have turned his form around sooner rather than later and got more wickets in the second test. Strange call in my opinion

Great bowling change. We need control with the new ball while it's doing something.

Watto could be a seriously gun bowler if he wasn't so fragile.

Haha... looked plum to me in real time. I don't think, as the commentators said, he knew he hit it.

Get rooted. You're cooked.

Not enough evidence to over tun that. Pad, bat, pad.
