Unfortunately I do have it correct. They brought it in about 2-3 years ago. The moment the ball strikes on the full, the umpire has to assume it will continue on a straight path.
Being hit in line is not sufficient to be given out.

Here is the rule:

And here is an explanation of the rule:

http://www.lords.org/mcc/laws-of-cricket/laws-in-action/law-36-in-action/

Note, no where does it say the umpire must assume a straight path, only that its original path is to assumed to continue. The umpire must consider drift/swing etc. Essentially all the clarification around being struck on the full did was bring the assessment of spin bowling into line with pace/swing bowling by alleviating the need to consider vagaries of the pitch or potential spin.

Bottom line if a right hand bowler hits a batsman in line with leg bowling around the wicket to a left hander it is almost impossible to be given out because the ball will almost always miss leg. The umpire had a shocker.

Pattison out for the series with stress fracture in lower back. So disappointing. Don't know who is going to score our runs now.
Would like to see Bird given a go for the 3rd test. Also wonder if we'll pick Cummins as a replacement for Patto

For years our domestic 4 day competition has been sub standard, and it's no longer a nurturing place for test talent. Country cricket used to be just to keep your eye in over winter, and to make some great cash, however now our players go there just for the money, and to get a foot into their 20/20 season.

Our spin bowling stocks are poor as wickets are prepared for seamers. Our batsmen have poor techniques against spin because they don't face any good spinners (see previous point.)

What it doesn't excuse though, is our poor technique against quality fast bowling.

Look at the table below (Top 10 run scorers in Shield 2012/13)

OOPS Used old data (Section removed)

I hate seeing out cricketing world collapse, however there's little hope of a turn around as our young boys are drawn to play one of the football codes, whilst cricket is something to fill in the time in summer. (nowadays from U/16s footy up preseason training starts in January)

$$$ talks and they can all all earn more by playing 2nd level footy than they ever will playing cricket.

Argus report or not, it's the talent available that determines success, not the structure of administrators or coaches. England went through a 15 year period similar to what we are starting to experience.

This is just the beginning.

Yep, its bizarre we have poor techniques against pace. Maybe our bowlers are overrated and it is simply a matter of our batsman being rubbish.

Pattinson a blow. Got to be honest, I felt he would break down. Every time he has a bad test it turns out he is injured. How do you get stress fractures after two tests with months in between tours?

With the biggest drop coming in the past 12 months... yikes!

Read an article yesterday referencing the Shield pitch preparation favouring outright results as a big factor in the season stats.

Telling that only two of the top ten shield batsmen are in the test squad

Bingo. Pick the best 5 batsman plus Clarke. Don't care who they are.

Warner beating up South Africa A. I see Maxwell is in the top 6... Can't fathom how someone like Joe Burns can't get a gig.

Yeah well, if the current Australia A side is an indication of the selector's thoughts then we have Henriques and Maxwell holding down key batting batting spots.

Something. Rotten. Denmark.

Before I make a comment about Warner.. Yes I know its only South Africa A.

Warner just knocked up 111* at the tea break batting at number 4 but even more impressive is that he has faced 144 deliveries to this point. Only Haddin has lasted as many deliveries in an innings which was 147.

Think it might have been Clint McKay during the week said if you bat time.. the runs will look after themselves.

So who makes way for Warner?..... Hope it's not Rogers
I'd get rid of Watson. Given we are playing on dust bowls it makes more sense to play Smith as the 'all rounder' than watson and he has bowled better and batted about the same. Don't want to drop special K or Hughes. They are the future and need the exposure. Hughes has shown he can improve his game and it was a great innings in the first test. Hoping he will respond. Only problem with dropping watson is that you need to find another opener. You could open special k but then you got to find a number 3. You could play Hughes at three I guess but that is a lot of changes to the line up.

I reckon they should make a call on Watson. All the stuff being bandied around at the moment about his stats and vulnerabilities - it's nothing new. I mean how much writing do they need on the wall. Problem is that I doubt they'll have the balls to make it right now. Prove me wrong Boof!

Agree that Hughes and Special K need to have some faith shown in them (especially K, he's been dicked around way too much). Should do the same with Smith although I'm still to be convinced of his long term place.

As for who bats where.... only so many ways you can arrange the furniture. I'd suggest Warner bats where the person he replaces bats.... if that's opening, we could do worse. Good on him for knuckling down and making big runs. That has to be rewarded

Got to add that if they drop Rogers, we really are fracked. Hasn't made big runs, but has been unlucky twice and has looked capable of building a test innings of note when at the crease.
