Definitely like the runs penalty for overs behind schedule. No point giving meaningless fines to overpaid captains. 10 Runs per over for 5 overs last night and the Aussies have their declaration and Cook's lost all reason to slow the game down so much.

Seriously that should have been out. Trying my best not to use expletives here but far out, watch Trott go make 70 odd now. Just want an equal game

Damn you Pup. Should be 4 fa.

Ah well, keep pressing boys.

That Hill is a goose though. I know Trott's went to umpire's call so it was close but that is plumb to the naked eye. Not sure how he doesn't give that.

He is the worst umpire in the world imo

Just seen the replay of the KP dismissal. He's terribly unlucky to be given out in the first place, but I'd say he should be giving up some or all of his match fee for his choice words following the dismissal. At least Khawaja didn't mutter deprecations to himself as he walked off in the first innings.

Shame it rained out. Got the feeling Root was about to go.

This is what happens when we have a DRS that encourages players to question umpiring decisions.

It's funny. Not so long ago, there was a rule saying batsmen shouldn't loiter after being dismissed, they are to walk straight off the ground, otherwise they'd be fined. Then we introduce a system that enables batsmen to hang around questioning the decision. Weird decision.

Outside of the second test the team has acquitted itself pretty well. If we can continue to get some consistent returns from the top 6 we should look to the rest of this series and the return series with optimism.

Yeah but that was pretty much the same against SA last summer. We haven't improved since then.

We did get some runs last summer v SA if I recall though. Just couldn't close out the matches we had the better of.

I think that tends to be the major difference between us and England and South Africa at the moment. Whether it's belief, confidence, talent or all of the above - we seem to manage draws from the games we have the best of. They get the wins. In part I think this is where the lack of a spinner who can take 5th day wickets is really hurting us.
