After seeing a few of their film clips though, they seem ok. Certainly better than shannon **** noll.

The Darkness

I got a fantastic introduction - I'd never so much as heard one of their songs before I saw them at the Adelaide BDO - my only motivation was that I'd read a few articles in Q (British music magazine) the week before on how great they were live and went and had a look. Totally exuberant, FUN band with a great sound and energy and easily the hit of the Big Day Out for me.

Very good! Some of his singing is ridiculous, but it works.

Didn't have that 'Christmas' song on it though, I guess it was just a single on it's own.

All in all, Refreshing.

I got the album as a gift yesterday from someone with excellent taste. I haven't got to play it all yet cos I keep geting told to turn it down. How can you not turn the dial as far right as your speakers can handle.

Haha! I was trying to ignore that.

Look, I see The Darkness as a gimmick band, and I can't get into them. I have heard their butchering of Street Spirit, and yeah, I hated them for choosing that to cover.

The singer's voice is annoying (yeah, can get very high, but so can Celine Dion, and do you like her?), although some of the lyrics are bloody catchy. I hate it when I catch myself singing Black Shucks to myself for no reason. Bloody Hawkins!

I can see why others like them, but they seem to be media darlings at the moment, and just because they are fun doesn't mean they are a good band.

I do enjoy The Darkness and im still thankful i got to the Big day out early to see thier set, took me back to he days when i used to steal my brothers Status Quo cd and play it loud when no one was home. The Darkness have brought back rock and im very thankful for it. However, as far as originality goes, they wont be pushing the envelope like TOOL, Radiohead and more recently The Mars Volta.

Get the cd, play it loud and enjoy it for what it is.

To me, they're very reminiscent of D.A.D. who are another band whose trademark is AC/DC type riffs, but delivered with refreshing originality and no hint of plagiarism.

I've finally listened to "Permission To Land" in full - very good album, even more so for a relatively new band, but I think it does have its flat spots, or tracks that don't reach their potential. But all in all rock needs more of this sort of stuff than pop singers manufactured for TV shows.

Have any of you guys seen any darkness T-Shirts for sale anywhere other than at the BDO, i didnt bring my wallet that day cause i didn't wanna lose it. The Permission to Land tour shirt was kick arse and i cant find any of there merch anywhere.

Don't really know where to start.

How good is that album?

I haven't enjoyed an album this much EVER. Something about a monster riff accompinied by a hardcore castrato, pink leotard wearing rock god belting out catchy as **** songs with ripping solo's somewhere in the middle somehow gets me going. And finally, some rock ballads that don;t make me vomit.

I a moved to create this thread only because I have given the album some time off after bashing it to death for a month or so, and it still evokes everything it did the first time I heard the opening riff to Black Shuck.

Usually I don't like it when great bands start getting awards, chart success etc because it can lead to trouble, but I reckon the music world needs this band.
