For me, I figured this one out about half way through the season...

I think the main thing that has helped this year, other than a refreshed attitude and new coaches etc. is the fact that we don't really have a BEST 22.

Last year we blamed injuries and such for a lot of our poor results, however when we finally fielded our absolute best 22 against Collingwood, we got smashed by 100+ points.

For me, this year if someone asked me to pick our best team, I wouldn't be able to do it. Every game we bring in a fringe player or two and they do their job as well as whomever they replaced.

With guys like D Johnson, J Hunt, Byrnes, Prismall, King, Hawkins, Varcoe all being fringe players this year it makes me wonder whether or not our VFL team would be pretty competitive in the AFL.

There are guys who aren't even considered who have been in such good form and probably deserved a run in the team a bit more this year. Whereas last year, if you were fit and had any sort of form, you were probably already playing and losing in the AFL.

There's the difference.

Two things for me: Fitness/Mindset

Remember that feeling whenever a side is coming....."This is Geelong, we can still lose?". I don't think anyone feels that anymore.

Its a tag thats hard to break. you grow up full of faith, then get smashed, only to come back next year to back them again. To be honest. Its what makes us.....well, us!

Agreed, along with the first post. Our second line players have stepped up a gear, mostly I think due to an increased fitness level.

Gives credit to Bertolacci doesn't it......not. Can someone remind me where the Bulldogs finished ??

Bomber's comment on Ch 10 's "Before the Game" that he had coached the same in 2006 as he has this year is bull. He is in charge of his personal life once more and has a great support team which was not there last year. He is nervous with the media and looked uncomfortable as usual. He's never sure when someone is being serious or taking the mickey out of him. Probably a remark made to defend himself but it sounded hollow.

i think alot of it too is that the players have stood up and taken responsibility, with a new captain i think its made everyone pull their heads in a focus on playing footy. Players liek Ablett and Johnson worked harder after the 'leadership group' sat them down and told them too..

Because we haven't had a good strong captain down at Geelong i think we all forget how much you need it. Primership teams all have that captain that leads by example and now we have that
