A new coach
A new gameplan
1 or preferably even 2 key defenders

And I think you'll actually see them beat the good sides, finish top 4 and challenge.

I don't know what the stats are, but from the eye test Dockers, Crows and Cats defence look a class above.

The midfield and forward line is let down by bottom five players like McNeil and Vandermeer.

You can tweak it a little bit with Weightman back in and keep Arthur Jones in with the option of West through the midfielder and kicking out those type of players.

You can push less high press up the ground

I do think it can change pretty quickly but Dogs aren’t known to land that many quality players in an offseason for defence fix when one on one. Not sure Buss is any good yet might be too slow which won’t help but any draftee will take time.

They should trade Bontempelli while he has currency and re-seed the list before Tassie. I think they can do a quick mini-clean out then load up FA's next year to contend.
