Surprised that there doesn't seem to be a thread dedicated to this. Who's read it? Almost finished, it reads a bit denser than The Draft and I found myself disagreeing with how she presented some parts of the Swans academy argument but the inner sanctum Saints material is fascinating.
I'm sure everyone's read the article about how and why Paddy was chosen.
In short (edited, sorry Nutsngum):
It's a good read. If you want to know more, read it yourself

In short (edited, sorry Nutsngum):
We were never really close to trading the #1 pick, clubs didn't really seem to offer enough. The Dogs pitched 6, 25 and 26 for it but we didn't think that was enough. We wouldn't have done 4 and 7 for 1 alone, let alone 4 and 7 for 1 and 21 (interesting how the media keep trying to suggest we were offered the former).
We stiffed Sydney for Membrey, we knew it, they knew it but no hard feelings. Kind of similar to how we got Roberton. We rated Membrey higher than Saunders in that draft but took Josh due to versatility and already taking White.
There was a lot of toing and froing over promoting Mav last year and a lot of it came down to picks and trading. We were always going to keep him but were worried someone else would swoop in. Shenton and Minchington were higher on the promotion list because they had to be promoted or cut.
The recruiters really weren't sure who would fall to 21 and 22. They were pretty sure of McKenzie but were also eyeing off Cockatoo (10), Ellis (12), Lever (14), Garlett (15), Miller (29) and Lone (41).
Boekhorst wasn't rated top 50 by our recruiters.
Goddard was 13th on our talent list, McKenzie was 15th, Lonie was 20th.
Despite the family connection it doesn't look like Lamb was seriously part of considerations.
