Who would of thought we would be playing finals this year? :D
While the club won't publically admit we are heading to the finals this year, I think us supporters should be genuinely excited about September.

The dilema though, is where would you rather finish? 4th or 5th?

4th and we get the double chance, however we may have to face Saints/Cats in the first QF and cop a beating

OR

5th and play a home final first up against the 8th placed team - Sydney (if the ladder remains unchanged) and a likely win would see us full of confidence for the next game

Given the teams we could be facing, would you rather finish 4th or 5th?

Much rather have the double chance than face an elimination final in the first week of Sept.
Yep, better chance of making it to a prelim if we finish 4th, lose to the Cats/Saints in Melbourne, then play our second final at Subi than if we travelled the second week.

silly question really
we got to live in the current year not in the future,4 th is way better than 5th.
who,s to say next year we will not struggle to make the 4 let alone the 8,remember 2007?
you have to take your chances when they present themselves, not maybe next year 0r 2012,we are having a tilt at the flag as far as im concenrned.and we are just as good a show as anyone.
we've beaten the cats, are narrowing the gap between us and the saints and as for the pies well september will sort them out.
if you dont have this as you attitude as a team the gtfo of the top 4 i reckon

Screw the lid! It's time we started thinking like winners and demanding what is rightfully ours, instead of cowering in the shadows afraid to get ahead of ourselves, content to live off the scraps that fall from the big boys tables.

/nonsensical braveheart speech

(and 4th is better than 5th obviously)

we lose the next 8 weeks then we miss it all together..... this thread is premature imo

KPR - that's weak as piss and you know it!

You've taken a massive hit - but you only need one more win - and unless MH takes your mob on a bender the night before the derby, there's one win.

I actually think you might get rolled this week - key personnel in your defence out - and i think Barlow will be sorely missed - will be another quality win if you get up.

however pretending finals aren't a certainty is ridiculous.

you guys have a relatively easy run home - well deserved too - because you had a flipping hard start - which just makes the position your mob in even more impressive.

Barlow will be the one though - i think we'll get to see how important he was over the next 2 months - and whether you guys start dropping games that the new dockers haven't been dropping.

F word is that like the L word?

The F word : New gay drama set in the vibrant, swinging streets of Subiaco, with plenty of bumping and grinding at Connections night club.
We follow the lives of a team of men that get about in blue and gold singlets, that enjoy playing with wooden spoons and enjoy long strolls along Swanbourne beach watching the sunset over the ocean. Tune in next weekend to see the team get another arse kicking in a purley non sexual way....... "oh stop it" :p

I never understand this 4th v 5th debate.

Finish 4th - probably lose a QF, play winner of 5 v 8 at Subi, probable win = in prelim final

Finish 5th - play 8th in Elim Final, probably win, play 4th away in Semi = probable semi exit.

Very simple really.

Anyway, we will play finals this year for sure. 11 and good percentage might do it, but 12 will certainly suffice. One of Sydney and Kangaroos is going to be 9th on 7-8 at the end of this round, which is essentially FOUR games back from us (inc percentage) with SEVEN to play, and that's if we lose to Richmond.

5 more wins will get us 4th.

can the AFL be trusted on deliivering us a home final (i don't think so)if we lost a qf final against either the cats or saints.obiviously we still have to earn that right.

This was sorted out years ago and is part of the reason Collingwood have so many MCG games. The two top 4 teams that lose in week 1 get a final in their home state in week two. If Fremantle finish top 4 and win their first final, they will get a preliminary final at Subiaco.

The original issue was to do with a minimum number of finals being guaranteed to the MCG. With Sydney looking to be the only other non-Victorian club with any chance of playing finals the number of finals in Melbourne will be more than would be required in any case.

bwahaha - LMFAO :D :thumbsu: :D

4th obviously because our youngsters will have to play geelong/saints at MCG
50-70k crowd what an expereince form them. if we have to play at "eddy had" no surprises our second home.

this a qualifying final which would be different from a cut throat semi.

everyone assumes we will lose the first week?? once you're in the finals anything is possible and dare i say injuries can play a huge part.

If and a big if we play back here the following week this is a cut throat game approached differently than the previous week. also it's a final played at home with different expectations. another experience for our youngsters.

a different scenario is we win the first week and we are in a prelim at home. with aweeks rest .different experience for our youngsters.

win this and we are in a prelim probably in melb and at MCG - huge crowd
another experience for our.

Finishing 4th is a must from 10-4 and our remaining draw.

it will fast track our youngsters

5th better than 4th? You'd have to be high to even think about it.

4th gives us a shot at a flag. 5th gives us **** all except for a bit of finals experience against Sydney before we get bundled out in week 2.

If we can finish 4th and jag a win in that first game, we've suddenly got a home prelim.

Double Chance. When do Geelong or Saints play pies again. If we keep winning until then we could jump them on the ladder. Not a very hard draw from here on in.

Richmond (should win by 10 points or over)
Melbourne (should win)
Bulldogs (50 50, possible win but not getting my hopes up.)
Eagles (Should win, im going to Perth for this :D)
North (should win)
Hawks (same as Bulldogs)
Not sure who we verse round 21 (might be Hawks not sure)
Carlton @ subi (should win)
that takes us to an equal club record 15 wins if we win the ones i put (SW) but there might be some upsets there

I hardly think we are unbeatable even in a home prelim final considering the Saints and Pies rolled us at home and the Cats almost did too. Having said that, I would back them in against either the Saints or Pies at Subi for sure. We played quite poorly in games against those two here.

Quite laughable to think finishing 5th would be better than 4th. I still want to finish in the top 2, however unrealistic that might be, that should be our goal. Not coming 4th, not making the 8. Set the bar high. Settle for 4th as the worst (but most likely) scenario.

I think tonights result makes such crystal ball gazing an excersise in futility

Will not make the top 4. Will finish 5 - 6 with more crap like we seen tonight happening more often away from home over the 2nd half of the season

Look we played badly tonight, but as far as im concerned if we come out against Melbourne next week with a 25-40 point win, with a host of players coming back, tonights effort will have been expunged and top 4 is likely. We're still a game up on the bullies. Sounds futile but hopefully they lose against Carlton.
