Riddle me this, if the focus is on Rd 1 why in God's name aren't we playing the majority of the team that we expect to be in our best 22 in Rd 1??

Between the Melbourne game through to Rd 1, given resting a few pussies and others who apparently have insignificant groins, we will have a 25-30% turnover of players each week.

How can you say you're focussed on Rd 1 when the reality is that the blokes who front up in Rd 1 haven't actually played together as a team??

Because you don't just get chemistry from games? They have trained together since October/November and previous to that the majority of players have played together for 1-2 years or more. The idea is to get games into the bodies of everyone - aka the entire NAB cup is getting fitness up.

Surely you don't expect everyone to play 5 scratch matches, so I think it makes sense to rest players in the 3rd and 4th games.

Everyone who was fit played in the intra-club.

Everyone who was fit played against Melbourne.

Everyone who is fit will play next week.

The club's played in beautifully in my opinion, would you have preferred to rest ten players last week and be playing NAB challenge this week?

I think that by "focus on Rd 1" what is meant is that winning round 1 is more important than winning the NAB Cup.

I assume that getting as many wins in the season as possible is more important than winning Rd 1.

Your User name doesn't represent your question ?

I reckon a user named The Naked Lunch could explain it to you.

They have trained together as a team all summer. Day after day after day.

A lot of these guys will get opportunities due to injury during the course of the REAL season, and given they have had the experiences in the pre-season, they will be better equipped to slot right into the side.

Fast becoming my favourite funny poster on this board:D

Such a pity that most of it goes over most peoples head.

You know you're in trouble when you agree with this guy George

Are you stalking me?
Does the word "sorta" not compute?

We have a list of kids who need all the game time they can get, NAB is perfect for developing clubs like our own.

Gives the younger players a chance to get out on the field and just play with significantly less pressure than the normal season, perfect way to build confidence.

I can understand the logic behind resting veterans and the sides challenging for the top 4 experimenting and easing their guns into the season.

From our perspective though, our side is nowhere near settled nor have we finished rebuilding. All players need to be sounded out and that can only happen through game time.

I'm all for NAB cup when clubs are in our position, obviously if I thought we were a chance for the top 4...I'd have a very different opinion.

That's what WAFL is for.

If you're aiming to hit the ground running in Rd 1, put your best team on the park at every opportunity.

At the risk of seeming like someone from the temperance union, keep it on topic.

George, your "woe is me" persecution routine is getting old and boring me shitless, so feel free to leave it at the door anytime you like :thumbsu:

And so it begins.

Remember what I said..keep it within the rules.

In our recent history it seems the players that have developed the quickets and shown the most promise are the ones thrown in the deep end quickly, leaving them to develop too long in the WAFL almost seems counter productive.

Warnock is the first example I can think of

Agree 1000%. NAB Cup is the perfect opportunity to see who's up for what. Pity the myopic desperate fools can't see the same.

When people say 'our focus is on R1' they don't literally mean the whole preseason is built around soley peaking in R1. It just means that the preseason is being used to prepare the team for the regular season in the best way possible. The whole regular season.

So yeah, if R1 was the ultimate focus it would be better to play our 1st 22 every game of the preseason. But it's not, so players are managed the best way possible to ensure a sustained crack at all 22 rounds.

God it aint Rocket Surgery.

Most teams rotate in the NAB cup, just as we have done - yet rather than foucs on the fact that our young blokes have stepped up and got us to the semis ....nope we beeyatch that we are not making our 7 foot superstar fly across the country a couple of times.

Get over it folks and support the guys who run out.

Plus if forbid we do lose a Sandi - well Mr Clarke is going to get a pretty good look at showing us what he can do.

I knew I liked you for a reason.

Looking foward to seeing these boys do their thing under the pump.
It's not too far fetched to say something like this could happen this year. See last years injuries for evidence
