Thinking State Leauges here....and put your thinking caps on....
What do you think the regional football scene will look like in 2050 ?
My Predictions:
1. I think we will see another national competition...at a lower level than the AFL, but consisting of teams from all states. This will be possible as airfares drop and previously strong clubs such as Norwood realise they are going down the toilet.
2. I think Tasmanian football will basically be consumed by Victoria with 2 or 3 teams in the VFL...with the remaining clubs in Tassies basically being of country league standard. I think there is a fair chance that Tasmania will be consumed by Victoria as a State (and maybe SA) but that is a different matter.
3. Essentially in places like SA I think we will see a rationalisation in the number of competitions. I do not think that having the SANFL, SAAFA and the numerous other comps is viable. At a state level we will probably see increased representation of country leauge rep sides.
I can speak best about SA but it might look like this....
Port & Crows in AFL
Magpies, Norwood, Glenelg, Sturt & Centrals in an alternate national comp.
A state leauge consisting of:
The remaining SANFL teams (if they do not fold) North, South, WWT, West + Spencer Gulf, Murray River, Whyalla, Mt Gamibia, Eyre Pen in a state comp.
This will probably see the demise of even more small country clubs etc
Or then maybe we will all be playing basketball.
what do you reakon ?
