Have been around for a while now and have liked them since I first heard their debut album a few years back.

They're from Jersey and list Springsteen as a heavily influence. The lead singer, Brian Fallon sounds exactly like Brandon Flowers at times. Their sound is much heavier than The Killers but not as heavy to describe it as hard rock.

They're well worth checking out.

Nice to see how their sound and Brian's voice has matured too

Songs from their debut album, The '59 Sound

Second album;

Never bothered with them until the new one, which is pretty great, if a bit vanilla.

Haha, heard this band on NHL 13 ('45') and decided to listen to some more of their stuff. Pretty cool band. Sound a lot like Priestess which are another good band for those of you who don't know them.

I agree that the vocalist doesn't really suit the sound and would sound better in something more like Nirvana or Pearl Jam, but that being said the sound is far from intolerable

Really like the Handwritten album. Although it is a bit like spot the influence with a number of songs.

45 is Pearl Jam, Here Comes My Man is Kings of Leon and National Anthem is Bruce Springsteen etc.

Mullholland Drive is my fav.

They're coming. :thumbsu:

They're good for what they are. Fallon is a decent songwriter who consistently pens catchy tunes.

The 59 Sound is one of my favourite albums and musically and lyrically it is their best. The last few have been a little over produced and IMO haven't reached the standout of the first two.

Casanova Baby! is probably my favourite track. Also love High Lonesome and Orphans.

The 59 Sound is not their debut album.

They're a bit of mix between punk (early stuff), indie and folk rock. A lot of fans of their early 2 albums are punk rock fans (including myself) hate what they've become. Which is stupid. They haven't changed their sound that much at all, they were always going to become this band, they've never sold out. I'm not their biggest fan, and I agree their last 2 aren't as good as their first 2 albums but they're still a good band.

This is from their debut album Sink or Swim.

If you like Gaslight Anthem here's some similar punk rock bands that fit the whole "punk/indie/folk" subgenre:

The Menzingers

Hot Water Music

Getting a bit away from The Gaslight springsteen sound and towards a more folk sound:

Frank Turner

Against Me! (every album has a different feel to it, early stuff acoutsic heavy fast folk punk, later stuff more indie rock, this song is their most popular and successful and more indicative of their last 2 albums)

yeah big fan of these guys, Sink or Swim is quite a good punk rock album with their own unique sound mixed into it, 59 Sound was good too and the title track is a personal fav, it live with BRUCE is legendary. American Slang was a solid all round album with a real NY/Jersey feel to it, and Handwritten was probably their best effort on a whole and 45 is a year on from it's release, still amazing.

Was a big fan of The '59 Sound when it came out, I actually listened to it this morning for the first time in years. Haven't bothered to listen to the last album, wasn't really a fan of the single

How much are the tickets for their gig at the Palace?

American Slang is fairly underrated actually.

Songs 4-7 are so so good. Huge Clash influence.

I guess the one criticism I have of the 59 Sound is the lack of dynamics in the album; bar Here's Looking At You Kid.

Went last night, immense gig. It was my first time in the Palace and its really an excellent set up there for gigs.

Highlights of the night for me were Great Expectations, Blue Jeans and White T-Shirts, 59 Sound, 45 and the last 2 songs of the night Here's Looking at You Kid and Backseat.

The 59 Sound is their best album IMO but all their stuff is top notch.
