Like the rest of you, I agree that was close to his last game.

But people need to change their attitude regarding battlers.

I heard something about Hyde this pre-season which opened my eyes a little towards players who are struggling. It's easy to get frustrated and at a game I am all for hurling abuse towards a player who turns it over.

We have a right to vent frustration at games when it is warranted.

But after the game, when you have driven home, you log into a message board and articulate your opinion - that is a different story.

During the pre-season it was said that Chris Hyde gathered the group together and gave a great speech that improved team morale and work ethic on the track.

Apparently after a few slack weeks by the group, it was Hyde who fired up the boys declaring he was sick and tired of being crap, he hated losing all the time and wanted everyone to give their ALL every session to give them every chance to be winners this year.

And now he's run 15kms for us tonight and everyone loudly celebrates his failure to make an impact.

I'm suggesting that sometimes you don't always know everything that happens inside a club and maybe we should all aim for a little more class in our posts, myself included.

Good evenin' all... I am a regular observer of these pages and, truth be told, don't get to the footy much at all these days. Therefore, I accept my perception of nuance of ability and potential are somewhat blunted. But, really... is Hyde all that bad? How old is he? How many games played? What was the word on him at the start of his career?

good post mate

unfortunately - this club can't afford to have so many players who have only one upside - and if hyde's upside is his off field leadership - then he is in a bit of bother.

i think the people who boast abusive hate towards him are scum - all our players deserve more respect than that - but we as supporters are becoming more and more enlightened to how we cannot keep players which are essentially inconsistent - or "deadwood" on our list - as we have failed for 28 years due to this.

Hyde has done a great job to get this much out of his career - was drafted with a very late pick - and on his day has proven to be a very exciting and pivitol player - he can easily play another 10 years at VFL level and be a captain of a club like Coburg - but at this level, we need players that are the full package.

The players who were kept were kept for a reason...

Mostly to lead the way, and be a positive example.

In Wallace's recent interview he mentioned that Bowden and Richo were kept, at least in part to inbue the heart and soul of the club into the kids.

Seems Hyde has a reason to be kept too.

I dont doubt that he gets a game coz he works his butt off and more than likely ticks off many of the coaches 1% ers , that's patently clear and good on him, unfortunatley he;s not immune to being involved in a doozy, he was alright tonight and Im certain will keep his spot:thumbsu:

That's the thing. He wasn't alright. Had a dream start and then disappeared completely. He's the kind of guy you'd like to have playing reserves that you could call up in case of injury. But the seconds are really only for developing players that aren't part of your first choice 22 and Hyde is already 26.

I wish him well, but I think his days with Richmond are numbered.

I would never question his endeavour, but fact of the matter is:
#1 he didnt earn the game today, it was just because of wallace's "balance of maturity and youth" falacy. This fallacy is trickling down to the reserves where collard was dropped back to the coburg ressies despite nearly being best on ground. WTF?! Seriously if you're not going to employ a youth policy at least give games to players on MERIT. What kind of message does it send when collard, who was in the bests gets sent down to the coburg ressies, whilst Hyde who was barely sighted for coburg gets put in the seniors?
#2 he should have been delisted at the end of '06 or at the latest '07, and shouldnt even be up for sellection now! Ever since he copped that facial injury in '05 or '06... and the few niggling injuries that followed... he has been almost entirely ineffective. Prior to this I loved watching him play! His one real strength was his attack on the ball, but now hes slower and somewhat less...kamikaze. The fact that he is genuinely giving it his all just makes his 6 disposal effort even more disgraceful because it shows he is a looooooooong way off. I'm sure hes a great guy, and he comes across as a genuine team player, but for too long we have accepted players that are either brilliant but self centred (early richo, browny, daffy) or team players but completely shizen footballers (tim fleming, and to a lesser extent duncan kellaway etc).

Sadly, whilst a bad attitude in a skillful player is something you can change or at least curb with a good culture (even at a more advanced age) a severe skill deficiency is something that, at Hyde's age, is impossible to correct.

Nobody cares what happens inside a club.

We only care what happens on the park.

So since you're an insider and all, how about you deliver the message that they have destroyed the proudest club in Victorian footy. Sob stories about what a nice guy Hyde is dont take anything away from the fact that at his age and level of experience, his footy should do all the talking.

Nobody is making any excuses for Hyde. He may only play 1 more game for his career and I stated this is the likely scenario.

Who is making excuses for you?

I'm not the one taking peoples money to watch me play crap footy.

Hyde should be ashamed of himself, and you should be embarrassed trying to justify it

Do you think he's proud of his game today or something?

Hurry up and let him know that you are paying to see him play good footy so he can start doing it for you.

Cos the team was under the impression you were getting into games for free :thumbsd::rolleyes:

Well some of the so called senior players have and continue to play as if they dont owe anyone anything.

We dont owe them anything either. Starting with sympathy.

So dont come on here with some agenda that we should sympathise with the very players who continue to let us down. If we want to learn about club propaganda, we'd be going to read Greenberg puff pieces on the official site.

I'm sick and tired of him being crap too , great post but unfortunatley when I played football , I was pretty good at giving the boys pump up speeches but never made my way into the seniors because I was a shite player like Hyde and deserved to be in the 2's.

Chris Hyde you have 10 seconds to leave the building.

Terrific post top 4 tiger. Just so you know i ran into Chris Hyde a couple of years ago in Port Melbourne and told him i was a big fan. He looked a little surprised. Not sure whether it was because i had said i was a big fan or because i was drinking a pink cruiser that i had found in the fridge at the time.

Anyway i totally agree with you - I too am sick and tired of us bagging players because they may not be a graders. Every player on the park for any team can not be an a grader. The club needs good honest hard workers who give their all just as much as they need the Deledios and the Cotchins. I think Tuck should get a little more respect. he might not be the quickest or the most skillful but he does a hell of a lot of the grunt work.

Ease off 1980.... the guy posted something that none of us knew, which is more than you have done in response. read his first post again and you will see that he has mentioned that he also agrees that Hyde's days are numbered.

all i know is what happens on the field. Running 15 kms is what happened...I can run 15 km and i can then lick everyone's arse with a speech...big ____ing deal....when are you dudes going to get out of this ridiculous...suburban footy mentality....this is the proffesional footy FFS...and not about pie nights etc etc....why doesnt he retire and get hired as the motivational expert then?

I mean FFS, i have no talent, i have limited shelf life in the this game, how do i extend my career in a team that is shit? I know, i will do all the clubman things and then i to can win the terence marini hairstyle for clubman of the year...;)

cool, he can be our runner next season

Nah, you want people who are both footy smart AND motivators for that.

Doesn't mean having a teammate giving encouragement for a few years wasn't good for the kids though...Sometimes you need to hear it from a 'peer', not the coach/boss, just as sometimes a 'quiet word' from the skipper helps ( and I gather he does a lot of that ), for others a bit of 'rah rah' can get them going.

Hopefully, some of the younger guys are taking up that mantle, so when Hyde goes at the end of the year ( probably...) his off field contribution wont be badly missed.

I heard Brad Green was Melbourne's best player week before last. Wonder how he went this week and who played on him.

really?? wow....we really do have a gun tagger in our team...we are laughing now...i know, lets shut down Goodes with him, since he quietened the Brad green menace, that has all the AFL coaches shaking in their boots....get real...;)

I'm plenty real enough Cogga. Playing him on Goodes was a mistake. Christ playing anyone at RFC on Goodes is a mistake right now unless you can point out who we should have used because I cant find one. Poor bastard drew true short straw. He did a job on Green yesterday and thats his role. No role match up, then its back to Coburg but yesterday he had one and did it well.

If you were to be critical of anyone yesterday it was our other tagger in White who got belted by Cameron Bruce which almost, IMHO, cost us the game. Whitey did some OK things himself but Bruce did as he pleased. I dont think tagging is White's go.
