Worrell is ready to go, we need a bit more height, I would much prefer we rule Hamill out early and focus totally on his recovery and a return in a couple of weeks. Get Worrell in competing with Kelly for that spot when Hamill returns. Not sure any other changes will occur. Lynch a fair chance to move into the 22 to prove they were right last week with maybe Rowe or Fog to the sub role. Or, as long as Dmac has recovered from the mental effort from being sub, he might suit up in that role again. He might also be a little more inclined seeing the second option turned out to be suiting up in the SANFL.

Out - Hamill (inj)
In - Worrell

Im actually not talking about any of that, just that McAdam and Rowe have a level experience that would place them in good stead when making their AFL debut compared to an 18 year old kid, aside from having mature body too.

You're still posting as if there's a strong equivalence just because they both played SANFL. Having p,aged in the same league isn't the total story. Rowe wasn't still on an upward swing when he got drafted, he was at the best he was going to be. A fully developed small forward. McAdam was still developing both as a footballer and physically and that's the difference that needs to be taken into account when discussing their relative improvement potential.

McAdam came from nowhere to the SANFL and on a rapid inclination. Rowe's been at it diligently and consistently since failing to get drafted the first time. Big difference between the 2.

if McAdam had been brought up through a proper junior development program and had been drafted into the AFL system at 18, I reckon that he’d be a star of the completion by now (assuming he gained confidence and swagger through the process). There is a lot of natural talent there.

Now in his mid-20s, I not sure that he has the time left to catch up. Currently he looks like a lazy bit player who is much more interested in taking MOTD rather than kicking a bag of 5 goals. He appears shy/withdrawn and lacking in competitiveness/will to win. He needs to play as a mobile half forward who demands the ball to be worthy of a berth in a premiership team.

While Rowe is a few year’s older than your typical draftee, he has an immature body. In the context of an AFL player, he is a flabby weakling lacking body weight and muscle definition. He looks a couple of tough pre-seasons away from filling out and achieving a respectable level of endurance for forward pocket. Hence I don’t think that he has anywhere near reached his peak, but I’m still not sure that his best will be worth more than 50 AFL games

Look sorry. I dont want to fight/argue or discuss this further. I didnt even read your post.

Youre making something bigger than what is and literally missed the actual rather simple point I was making and going off irrelevant tangents.

McAdam didn't have any issues with defensive actions or getting involved in the play last year. Often you'd see him all over the ground.

He looks to be playing injured. I don't think he's a player that copes well playing with a niggle. Needs a rest to get himself right.

I also seem to recall that his shoulder injury isn't the first injury he's copped this year. I think he came off the ground for an extended period in the Geelong match (?) with an ankle or something like that.

For a team that is rebuilding both the team, trust and players.

Im staggered we field injured players.

Worrell can play a multitude of positions. Once in he will be hard to get out and likely why they are taking so long in playing him.

McAdam is fragile and hasn't been offering a great deal this year other than some 4th quarter goals in a few games.

I've posted before that I suspect they are trying to toughen McAdam up a bit and make him realise that being sore and being injured aren't the same thing. We haven't given him the out of a week off to get over any niggles he has.

A bit like when McLeod's knee locked up in the 1998 prelim and he limped towards the bench in pain, looking to come off. It took a microsecond for Blight's message to get down to him: Get the **** back on. Your knee isn't getting any better so suck it up. McLeod made a u-turn and continued playing on his way to 7 goals.

McAdam is a bit the type to crumple in a heap and be carried off (possible acl?) then be flying for hangers 10 minutes later.

When he was at the peak of his powers and we were a good side too, Eddie Betts was consistent. The bloke kicked 70 goals in 2016 as a small forward in a very defensive era of this spot. The problem is that Betts is a freak who is unlikely to be repeated.

Well a month on from the OP it seems that Rowe and McHenry are starting to find a bit of touch and a bit of the ball.

Neither have put in sterling displays by any means but are looking more comfortable in their roles now and contributing.

Can't help but think Murphy's injury has helped a bit here? There just aren't enough scraps to go around for three opportunists to prosper.

yes. And Murphy has shown some real ability there too

he’s had patches in the middle where he has looked first class.

of all three, Murphy I can see being a real late bloomer into a sneaky really good player. By that I mean in 3 years time, I wouldn’t be shocked if he was a top 10 player on our list (full time mid). Not saying he will, but it’s not a crazy possibility either

Also a year ago 😱
