How many more tests at the waca? Are they moving to the new ground or staying?
The State Government, Cricket Australia and the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) have agreed that from 2018 Perth Stadium will host Test Matches and Limited Overs Matches with England, South Africa and India plus all Big Bash League Twenty20 matches.

Looks like the WACA will remain for lower drawing opponents but the new Perth stadium will be used for the bigger tours.

So SA go into a Perth test with only 3 quicks, one of who is on the comeback from shoulder surgery. Said comeback bowler, Steyn, has just hurt his shoulder and is in serious doubt to bowl again at least in this test. That's a lot of bowling to come this test for Philander and Rabada.

they're doing ok so far. The Aussie batsman are rubbish apart from Warner. Du Plessie is amazing in the field.

S Marsh batting well tbf.

batted well but is generally inconsistent. Concede Smith and Nevil were probably unlucky but big questions over current batting line up remain.
His past 2 years have been pretty good, average of 49 from the start of last year

Really? Is that his test average or first grade average? Wouldn't have thought that from watching him over the last couple of years, in and out of the test side.

Test. Not sure what his FC average is over that time.

His past 4 tests have shown especially fixing that.

Great catch! OK - S Marsh and Warner in my test 11...
I'm not overly interested in the Australian summer but this is what I would be taking to India:

Batsmen: S Marsh, Warner, Smith, Patterson, Handscomb, Burns
All-Rounders: M Marsh, Agar, Henriques
Keepers: Nevill, Whiteman
Bowlers: Starc, Hazlewood, Bird, Lyon, O'Keefe, Swepson

S Marsh
Warner
Smith
Patterson
Handscomb
M Marsh
Nevill
Agar
Starc
Lyon
Hazlewood

"Warnie" is like a cross-bencher. He's all ideology with no appreciation for the burden and responsibility of office.

With his attitude and the current standard of our test side he would lose so many more tests than he would win and draw. With the talent that would have been at his disposal when he played he, no doubt, would have been as successful as everyone else.

A test is played over 5 days. There are peaks and troughs and not every moment of a test requires aggression.

I would have thought that, in a scenario in which South Africa is a bowler down, without a genuine all rounder, they ought to continue to bat on to a point that Australia cannot win (i.e. setting 500 runs plus).

South Africa will either skittle Australia cheaply because of the combination of the bowlers it does have, our frailty combined with an inability to bat with discipline and the pitch, or it won't happen because they don't have the bowlers to dig in for much more than 100 overs.

Warne sets up to lose games that should not be lost.

We ain't saving this match. In fact I won't be surprised if we lose before stumps today.

Which is even more of a reason to not risk exposing your two quicks to a day and a half of toil with another test starting this week.

The other problem the South Africans face is if they adequately rest their quicks it will mean using part-timers for sustained periods. The combination of time and mediocre bowling options gets dangerously close to creating the conditions for an Australian revival (remember that pitches are covered today and made to last 5 days so conventional wisdom serves as nothing more than a self-fulfilling justification for mediocrity of batting performances).

Put the game beyond Australia, send them in as late today as possible. They'll get us out in 100 overs or it won't happen at all. The probability of 5 sessions being any more likely to result in South African victory than 3.5-4 sessions is low to non-existent.

Duminy is as close to an all rounder as anyone in the world

Prior to this test match, compared to Ashwin
+15 runs
+ 1 Innings
+ 1 50
Same amount of centuries
- 183 wickets

Duminy has basically been given a free ride for a number of years now.

Duminy isn't a star, but really, what has Ashwin done outside of Asia?

Averages 30 with the bat and 33 with the ball away from India. Which is pretty respectable.

What about when you take out games in SL, Bangladesh, Pakistan and UAE?
