Always interesting to listen to, and such an encyclopedic knowledge of cinema.
I also love that his favourite film is Singin’ in the Rain

Was an absolute legend of the highest order. Gotta love a doyen and he most definitely was one. I hope he’s up there critiquing this version of life. I’m expecting no more than a 4/10 thanks to Trump, MAGA idiots, and global fascism in general.

I’ll never forget the time he described his experience watching the ‘Sex and the City’ movie

“Utterly dispiriting’

Sad news. A couple of weeks ago I saw Refused Classification which was like a live documentary about a movie which was banned from the Sydney Film Festival and how Margaret and David fought against the ban. I saw photos of David meeting Zach and Alexei who perform it after a show, so I'm glad he got to see it. It was very much Alexei's love letter to Margaret and David.

I watched One Battle After Another today. It seems to be polarising audiences (probably due to the politics).

Best film I’ve seen in a long time.

I’ve heard that we should be watching it on the big screen and not waiting for it to his our tv screens so I will try and catch it this weekend.

Interested to hear your thoughts when you’ve seen it

I saw it at the cinema.

I liked it, it was definitely a cinematic experience and interesting to watch, but I have to admit I didn't think it was as good as some others.

Not because of the political element; I enjoyed that aspect.

I just find most PTA films to be well made without blowing my mind (TWBB is immense and justifiably praised).

The score was incredibly irritating, and it was often that classic PTA manic piano even when a scene was a quiet conversation.

Sean Penn's character felt like a cartoon character in an otherwise scarily believable film.

You'd have these intense scenes were the military were overreaching, brutalising citizens, and then Penn hobbles in and speaks as though he's pushing out a shit.

Maybe that was supposed to be the point, but it took me out of the film a bit.

Molly’s Game (Netflix) is definitely worth a watch. Entertaining and moves along at a a good pace. Jessica Chastain is such a good actor.
Went and sat in the cinema yesterday for an interminably long time to watch Avatar. To be fair, it went quicker than I thought once you lose yourself in the incredible CGI. Feels like it’s mid-point in a bigger story. Fire is the elemental theme. I’m assuming there’s air and spirit to finish up a 5 movie sequence. Getting some bad reviews for story depth but it’s more about losing yourself in the journey with Avatar.
