At least every modern rock band.

Seriously, these guys are criminally under rated, and were the first band I can recall being heavily inspired by the 70's garage/metal sound.

And they're easily the best proponents of it, probably cause they're swedish, teh swedish do everything well - like pr0n, they do good pr0n.

Saw tehse guys live about 5 years ago, and they were, yeah, awesome. for some reason they played in the doof tent ata Big Day Out, or perhaps Offshore that year it was at the showgrounds. Oh to be 17 again... ******** that ruled.

Anyway, if you're unconvinved by my stunning argument, just watch this:

OR

:D:D:D

If that didn't convince you try this one:

highly recomend them, they are ********ing awsome, blow wolfmother away, but i still like wolfmother, but they aren't the best modern rock band. That title goes to Muse

in hindsight you may well be right considering how ordinary the last turbonegro album was, but I note that you did not disagree with my assertion about entombed.
well done.
;)

I honeslty don't know entombed. *cowers* PLEASE DON'T HIT ME

here's nicke in better days when he was a drummer (far left):

entombed = one of the original early 90's swedish death metal bands
(probably not really your cuppa tea, but now you know)

Yeah deaht metal, generally, doesn't do it for me - I ahve mates in metal bands, and they hate hiphop, i hate them. It's like an unspoken thing, except we say it all the time to eachother.

Played @ Offshore @ The Showgrounds, RJ, in one of the tents. Good gig, should have been the headliners. Coincidently was playing the "Rock & Roll Is Dead' album last night.

Having seen both bands, i'm with SB in rating Turbonegro higher.

Plenty of goods bands from Scandinavia, Flaming Sideburns are killer, Gluecifer, Royal Beat Conspiracy, Burnouts, Backyard Babies. Soundtrack Of Our Lives are some others that can be recommended. Scandanavia have been at the forefront of good rock for the last decade or so.

Most would owe a pretty big debt to The Nomads.

thats right "citytripper" - they were easily the highlight of the show - i remember me and a mate were in year 12 going to see them after Suicidal Tendencies (or was it before?) and just being blown away and saying "wtf just happened, those crazy swedes were ********ing awesome"

Yeah i was the "old bastard" in the tent. Must say even though i'd probably seen a squillion or so bands over the years, i was pretty well blown away too. Had all the right moves and right influences as well. Enjoy most of their albums as well. Your right in saying they were easily the highlight, although wasn't a lot of competition IMO. YouAmI and Fez Perez were good, but one of the so called highlights in Ben Harper & band were dreadful. Yes, it was back in the days when i was able to get some freebies.

Harper was ok, I've never been a huge fan of his though - mainyl cause I'm a Sublime fan and always considered them far superior to their imitators like Harper/Johnson and co.

Suicidal Tendencies were very good as well, I can't listen to theri music normally, but live in concert they are extremely tight.

And yes, that day was probably the best performance I've seen by You Am I

I think after Mr. Harper totally butchered Hendrix's "Voodoo Chile" with his opener was a bad start, but personally don't think his set improved a lot after.

No, rick. Harper was around at least the same time as, possibly before, Sublime, and sound nothing like them (nor Jack Johnson for that matter). Harper has always ploughed a very different road.

As for Hellacopters...posted it on here before, and will again. Best nu-garage-rock band. But you missed posting Devil Stole The Beat From The Lord.

Sublime had been going strong since about 88 - and ended in 96 or 97 I think.. but yes I acknowledge harper isn't 100% evidenced by their sound (which is way too varied in itself for someone to simply copy it) I'm jsut saying he was influenced by some of their stuff in my opinion.

I don't agree. I've always considered the sound of Sublime to very much more 'Californian' than Harper, more punk influence.

Would never even consider comparing the two personally, apart from at times they have both down poppy/folky stuff, but to say Harper took that influence from Sublime is stretching reality.

New album due out soon and they are more than due for an Aus tour, last time out was 2003 and they safely ripped shit up then. Come back !

The guitarist has a side project out called Thunder Express but the only way to find it would be to order it in from the Net :(
