With all the attention given to the Stones' 50th anniversary, another UK band of the 60s has quietly slipped under the radar, notching up 50 years.

The Hollies were formed late 1962 and will be in Australia in a couple of weeks' time for a few shows on their 50th anniversary tour.

Even thought their last major international hit was The Air That I Breathe in 1974, they continued to record through the 70s and into the 80s, before resuming their recording with two studio albums in the last six or seven years.

As far as I am aware they have been a continuous unit since formation. Even when Allan Clarke left in the early 70s for a while, they continued on with a replacement lead singer.

Two of the current members have been there since 1963, a few months after the band was formed - Bobby Elliott (drums) and Tony Hicks (guitar).

Well deserved recognition came their way a couple of years back when they were admitted to the R&R HOF.

Yes I'm a fan and yes this probably reads like a press release, lol. :) I'll be going to see them in early Feb and I can't wait. Great group. :)

I'm going to see them tonight. Only 2 originals which is a shame. Would have been great to have seen them with Clarke and Nash.

I love them. So many fantastic songs. Great 60's pop. Classic harmonies.

I have all their albums.

The show was superb. The trademark harmonies were there, they played for over two hours (with an intermission in the middle, lol) and did 28 or 29 songs.
