I studied commerce back in the day. Started out as an analyst, then moved to acquisitions then to development management. An architecture or engineering degree is probably most helpful though and you can go straight in to project or development management and skip the analyst / investment management part. Can also study project management outside of university at TAFE and other institutions. This is generally a longer pathway though and you’d need to start at a builder before being accepted at a developer. Unfortunately developers generally look for uni degree qualifications or project managers with builder experience if they haven’t gone down the university pathwayWhat qualifications do you need and how do you get loans to do it?
Always interested in this even working for a company managing the projects would be interesting.
I have investors that provide the equity and then once I’ve secured an opportunity I start talking to banks to fund the remainder. All the majors provide financing for development but they’re quite conservative. I generally target 2nd tier banks like LaTrobe or Pepper. I also have relationships with family offices who also provide debt.
