We won contested possession: 167-149
We won clearances: 39-38
We won total possession: 364-327.

What's this say? We won the ball. We won the 50-50 set plays. We held onto the ball. Against the benchmark of the comp.

There's a lot to like about Freo under Lyon.

It was a hot footy out there tonight and agree there is a lot to like.

Mundy and a fitter Sandi/Barlow should give us another gear too

One would only imagine we will get better as Lyon and Stone continue to teach the guys their way.

Only concern is that we rely on Sandi so much at the clearances. I think he had 8 or 9. That guy is such a gun!

Mundy back and Neale to come in will help down the track.

Crowley is a poor mans´s Ling. Spends a lot of time in the middle tagging guys, but unlike Ling, is completely ineffective on the offensive side and at obtaining clearances etc.

Fyfe needs to get more ball in the open as well. Almost all of his possessions are in close, under pressure resulting in another 50% DE game.

Agreed good stats. What were the inside 50's? Bet we got smashed in that.

I still got pissed watching us converge on the ball while the Cats just powered forward backing that they'd get the ball in dispute. At other times, they looked to be 'cherry picking' actually letting their defender go up the ground and banking that we would turn it over, it seemed to me to be a deliberate tactic.

How many times did Johno point?

Seriously, he had a cracker of a game and hope he maintains tonights effort.

He did point tonight - but it was to indicate which player he was covering....I'll await a few games of effort like this but it was good to see.

We did, and that is not as good. Still, something to work on, and the fact we kept winning the hard ball despite their forward pressure is a positive.

Had we won the i50s we would have smashed them.

MDB and/or Lower to cover the tagging/cannon ball roles should push Crowley out in a few weeks.

Very happy about winning the contested possession.

One thing I would to know though is - how did we manage to get so much space and so easily kick 5 straight to start? Need to do that consistently, bad starts ****ed us over in several games in 2011.

Sadly, it did leave us massively exposed at some stages. But we were good enough to counter when it counted.

Funny how I got the impression that we got smashed in clearances [obviously without looking into the stats] when I watched the game, which wouldn't surprised me considering our makeshift midfield vs their "blue-chip" mids.

I'm happy. :)

The disposal efficiency stat confuses me. Watching the game live it seemed that Geelong were so classy with their kicking and seemed to hit most of their targets.

My key stat:

The previous 15 times (since Jack Riewoldt missed after the siren in Round 7 2008) a Ross Lyon coached team conceded 100+ they lost!

Oh, and ...

Michael Barlow: 13 possessions, 7 contested possessions, 3 clearances, 1 goal, 33% game time.

At full fitness, double it.

Maybe you just expect more from our players and are therefore disappointed when they don't deliver. (Not having a go, just a potential explanation)

None of your stats allow for the shitfull umpiring in Q2 and Q3.

Also, if you itemised your stats by player, you would find that Sandi and Fyfe had masive impacts, together with (shock horror) Duffman and Pearce (in Q1 and Q2).

Yet your mere repition of total game stas has suddenly convinced you that "There's a lot to like about Freo under Jyon" ???

By goodness I hope you are right - especially since most of the good I saw was from Ballas who wil be suspended for the next few rounds, and Barlow who is hardly fully fit.

Our disposal efficiency was also better, 73.04% to to 66.8%

DE matters little in the face of a superb manly footy press...

Have you been taking idiot pills?

Nah, just thought Geelong were superb in their kicking and quick transitions. Not saying we were bad, just thought they were awesome.

Have you been taking idiot pills?

No, oh oracle of all things Freo, Senor Flay.

What I have done is point out that your "stats" [like all stats, be they DreamTeam, SuperCoach or Sheeeeeeet Clay Play Day No Way Say Hey Two Day) are open to interpretation.

If you are honest about your so called stats, you might possibly acknowledge that the massive 1 extra clearance we had, or the massive 18 extra contested possies "we had", are largely due to a combination of the umpiring (free kicks to Sandi and the Freo mids) and the net effect of the serial indiscipline of Geehandbags and lumps like Scarlett and Sjohnson.

Of course, to suit you - much better to give Rosscoe Pekoe all the credit, even when miracle goals from Pav and Fyfe are the only reason we won.

Wow. Harvey fan, I take it?

Nope, absolutely not a Harvey "fan". Very glad he is gone, the way he played Hill, Palmer, Mundy and Sandi was just a disgrace.

My point to Sheeeeeeeeet Davis was that I find it very odd that for 16 years Clay has had no reason to post "the key stats" yet suddenly he feels the need to post (very, highly selective) so-called "stats" and suddenly they are evidence the "Lyon era" is "working". After 1 fu&king game, FFS...

Grow up Clay.
