What a fight back!

I know I'm not the only Hewitt fan in here so well done to Lleyton for taking his 1st round match out in 5. A bit of work to do tomorrow morning for Lleyton but just glad he got over the line :thumbsu:

To the guy who made the Michael Russell Appreciation Thread.... HAHAHAHA. And to all you baggars having a go at Hewit... suck on that. AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSSSSSSSSIEEEE!! :)

3-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3

Pfft any guy with the chance of winning the open would have never got in that situation to begin with.

Errr...many times in the past favourites were down in the dumps in the first round. Safin 2001, Sampras 99, Agassi 98, Safin 2005 etc etc.All were down 0-2 sets in their first round matches against little known players. Not saying hewitt is a favourite, but it has happened in the past.Hewitt wont go past round 4

Bahhhh hahahahahahaahahahaha this thread is a joke right
Hewitt is supposed to be one of the best players and he gets taken to the 5th by a player where've never heard of and after tonight will never hear of again.
Its these sort of players hewitt should be beating in 3 without breaking a sweat. He does this every single year.

Yeah and who won? Sluggish start but got on top and produced some good tennis, not his best but still won.

Just shows what a great player he is when he's not at his absolute best and still triumphs :)

Over the past 15+ years of myself following tennis it happens all the time, a player unknown to most of the once a year tennis fans, takes it right up to a big name early in the tournament. Many times they go on to make the semis or even win the thing. Not saying he will do this as I believe he will be lucky to make the 4th round, just saying not to read too much into it. I guess it's like when Richmond upset the crows in the AFL last season.

good description. People are criticising based upon their own ignorance

Lleyton is disliked because he acts like a tool, not because he can't play tennis. He is a great player and the amount of times that he grinds out matches where he is not playing at his best is amazing. He always gives everything in his matches.

and that is simply lame.

I think Akermanis is a tool yet can respect how good at footy he is and enjoy watching him.

People who truely love tennis wouldnt be abusing someone purely for their personality.

I think he was referring to the fact that people are criticising the type of player he beat in 5 sets but if they pulled their heads out of their a$$ they would see differently that he is a good player who has been hampered by injury and was finally coming into an event with a good preparation.

Great win:D

He was fairly subdued last night I thought no doubt people will find something wrong with how he acted, he will struggle from here no doubt but a win is a win. A great come back no matter who it was against.

If only you could give that attitude to a few other Aussies.

Akermanis plays a team support so he does not command as much attention as Lleyton. Nathan Buckley is the most high profile player at the club that non-supporters love to hate but he is not despised like Hewitt. Maybe Lleyton appears worse because he plays an individual sport. Would Warne be less popular if he played an individual sport like tennis?

When lleyton acts like a **************** he struggles to gain support. A **************** who has grat pace, stamina and a will to win will never be popular. How can you explain the contrast isn support between Rafter and Hewitt? Both were great Australian players considered to be "tall poppies".
