Come across this beauty of an idea (conspiracy) while doing some random Google searching.

I just can't seem to get my head around it or if it's even remotely possible or the consequences if it ever will be possible.
I did some extended research and found out that there is no way a single probe like Cassini can start a nuclear reaction to turn Saturn in to a second Sun you will need a mass of something like all the Giant gas planets combined to even start to contemplate it! That was from other sicence forums and posts with no real references so not sure if that's right!

Can we turn Saturn or Jupiter in to a second star? is project Lucifer possible? obviously I doubt a single probe can do it but out of curiosity what would be needed to actually achieve such a feat?
 
the answer is no just no. what people don't get is that the sun is not some big ball of fire nobody got a ball of hydrogen and lit it with a gas gun.

what happens with the sun is that the gravity is so intense that hydrogen atoms are actually compressed helium atoms. they are quite literally fused together by the stars gravity. hence the term fusion reaction is used. now this generates a shit tonne of energy which again energy heat light blah blah blah this is why the sun is so hot its not so much on fire but that the energy produced by the fusion reaction generates light.

now i haven't got the time right now to go look up saturns atmosphere, but lets go back to the last time this was supposedly going to occur.
it was a probe called galileo and we crashed it into jupiter to protect the environments of the surrounding moons (i think i've actually talked about this before)

so why didn't jupiter ignite? there's a very simple answer, to burn hydrogen you need oxygen (there are other gases like fluorine but you actually need even more of that its best reaction is with oxygen) no nuclear explosion on jupiter is going to ignite it, mostly due its Hydrogen rich atmosphere. it just isn't the right conditions. but even if you did ignite it somehow you would not get a second sun, you would get a giant fire ball which would burn out very, very quickly and drum roll please turn into a giant ball of water or is it steam? which would then boil off into the vacuum of space because water does that in a vacuum (i don't remember why right now).

you see hydrogen "burns" when it reacts with oxygen. what is actually occurring is that with the right combination of the two gases they start to bond what they bond into is two parts hydrogen one part oxygen (or H2O, or is it gatorade?)
but at the same time this bonding produces kinetic energy (kinda like the energy reaction from fusion but just multitudes weaker) and as we all know kinetic energy produces heat (or to be more accurate a property of kinetic energy is heat, i'm getting beyond my own understanding of physics now)
we also know as gases heat up they expand and very fast expansion of hot gases is what we call an explosion. the very reason Hydrogen is classified as highly explosive is that it expands very very fast due it high burning temp.

basically if we got the proportions right (which don't exist on jupiter) the ignited it and even got it to be exactly uniform so all the hydrogen ignites and none of it gets blown away or it anything like that is suddenly jupiter would appear to grow bigger and brighter to actually being faintly visible to the naked eye and then vanish, in fact by the time we saw it the light show would have already been over. whilst a whole bunch of jupiter's of other gases would have been jettisoned into space.

none of the gas giants in our solar system are dense enough to become stars (in fact jupiter is about 80 times too small to become even the smallest star) its just not possible to create a star. we'd need to make it dense enough so that it will collapse back in on itself fusing the atoms together. because thats what the sun is its all about fusion.

all a nuclear explosion is about fission its about splitting atoms apart and releasing the energy. now it doesn't even matter if we accidentally created a runaway fission reaction.we'd make a very big very powerful bang but thats it a shit ton of energy is released and then? its all over.
fusion and fission are fundamentally different.

think about the nucleus of an atom as a marble. what Fusion is trying to do is take two marbles and compress them into one big marble.
now lets picture steals here, how would you go about doing so? well the easiest to do that is to with heat and pressure get them hot enough to become soluble and the press them together using pressure. and we get a very big very ugly malformed marble but lets pretend we did it perfectly and got a big round marble. that is fusion.

fission on the other hand is much easier, we take a marble and we peg that marble into a circle of other marbles and attempt to jostle all the other marbles into moving. now imagine throwing that marble so hard you actually split the marble in 2 or 3 different pieces, and each pieces then hit another marble and the process repeated itself and on and on it goes. but the size of the effect is always determined by the strength of the initial throw. because with each reaction it loses energy.

**** i hate that film, you read the book by clark or are familar with any of clarkes works you understand not only who the real visionary was but that Kubrick basically butchered the entire story. his great works a boring pile of shit thats barely watchable.
