This thread will be exploring the extensive history between these two clubs from Season 20 onwards as a deep dive into the greatest rivalry in modern SFA. A timeline of both clubs, results of significant clashes and memorable moments on the field involving the some of the most notable characters in SFA history.

Now the West Coast Wonders may have some protestations about the premise of this thread declaring their Foundation Cup rivalry with the Demons to be the greatest rivalry. However, the record books shows a long and storied history between the Swamprats and Demons with both clubs having won 2 premierships and competed in 4 grand finals each since Season 25 while the Wonders have not achieved anything in 15 seasons other than be a yellow and blue stain on the bottom of Tarkyn_24's boot or the punchline in a philreich joke.

Season 20 Preliminary Final

When we look back on how these two clubs would come to dominate the Qooty landscape between Season 25 to Season 31 we need to go back to Season 20. A time when okeydoke7 was the outgoing league administrator, Headless was an inactive, and the league saw Wooshette_ (Wosh), Close Contest (Kennedy Parker) and Van_Dyke finish top 3 in the EKA. The Filth Wizard beat out RU_, @Juggalo Balla and Quivorir in a fiercely contested admin race which would lead Quiv to start his own rival Qooty league - the World Qooty Federation on his own forum that would soon attract upwards of 800 active contributors in a mere matter of months.

Ah, those were the days.

The Lead-Up
Mount Buller DemonsSin City Swamprats
The Demons under the leadership of Eth and Footypie32 would start the season in flying fashion reaching the halfway point of the season with a 6-2 record only losing the Bombers and Furies by small margins. They would enter Round 9 against the Swamprats in a top of the table clash full of confidence, only to be smashed by 84-points at home. Such a comprehensive flogging would flow into next week as they get smacked again by 69-points by the Wolves (Gumbies) who had a 1-8 record leading into that game. However, they would regroup with 2 convincing wins afterwards and go to finals in third spot with a 10-6 record. Season 20 saw Demons champ Van_Dyke make his debut. The Swamprats under the captaincy of league's saddest man spookism. The Rats brought in a rookie Kennedy Parker to add to toxic and Millky95 from the previous season and proceeded to dominate the league. Despite a Round 1 loss by 3 points to the Furies due to an on the siren miss, the Rats would prove near unstoppable in Season 20, winning 12 of the next 13 games. Finishing on top of the ladder, only losing by 3, 12 and 9 points during the season. The Rats would similarly dominate off the field too, being the most active club by a large margin, dubbed the 'Spamrats' due to the hyperactivity of the likes of Kennedy Parker, Ant Bear, I Dont Care, Millky95 and Quadzilla.

In the finals series, the Demons upset the Furies in the QF, while the dominant Swamprats fell back down to earth with an upset defeat at the hands of the Dragons.

After the Rats easily disposed of the Las Vegas Bears in the semi-final. The two teams met in the preliminary final at the Snow Dome, the same venue where the Rats smashed Demons by 84-points.

Understandably the Rats were cocky and spamming up the thread, celebrating by posting pics of cricketers raising the bat when post no. 100 comes up (one of the earliest instances of this practice).

The old school Demons weren't too impressed...
I miss the halcyon days when 100 posts by a whole team was considered a busy thread, where teams actually tried to get stuck into each other rather than into meaningless and mundane one-liners to boost the dick measure of a post count as if that had some minor representation of how 'good' a poster actually was.

Guess I'm like this thread's Mark Waugh.
I'm allowed to celebrate an achievement. Like you can celebrate actually managing to reach double figures in your Qooty score.
Swamprat threads are the best. We just win at the end which upsets people

There was also some other content, believe it or not, this was the cutting edge of shooping and graphics work before TheInjuryFactory and Barrybran came along.
Let's have check-up on what Qooty stars have been up to on social media lately...

Meanwhile, over at the Mount Buller Demons, cooney has some cake to celebrate his upcoming 200th game!

This is the beginning of some bad blood between the two clubs as Smartys Power made fun of the Swamprats' failure to recruit him over the offseason, taunting spookism about the fact that he did a Noobz0r and dogged him.

In an epic case of sim justice, Smartys was benched for 90% of the grand final and thereby earning him the nickname Smartys Bench.

Since my debut in season 26, these two teams have been the most successful, combining for four of the nine premierships available since my debut from seven of the 18 available grand final spots available. Both teams have played in seven of the nine finals series in that time, with the Demons notching up an impressive six preliminary final appearances while the Swamprats have appeared in five prelims of their own.

Such has been their success over the past nearly ten seasons, the first season I played without the Demons or Swamprats appearing in the grand final was season 32, by which time I had already played 121 games.

Having played in four Spoonbowls throughout my career I have only one thing to say about seeing these two teams play in one...

Season 21-22 Form Slump and Rebuild

Following the preliminary final clash, both teams would fail to follow-up on strong performances in Season 20. At the conclusion of the previous season, the Demons would lose Footypie32 to the Royals and Eth would step down leaving Smartys Power to be the new captain beginning of his redemption story - which would not exist because only more pain and suffering would await ol' mate Smartys Bench. It would be a miserable season for the Demons on and off the field as the posting was entirely carried by Van_Dyke, cats2rise (who had the horrific username Van_Power back then) and cooney with next to no activity outside of those in the leadership group. The Dees started with 2 wins out of the first 3 games, then proceeded to lose 11 of the next 12 matches on their way to the Season 21 wooden spoon. The only win being a massive 131-point smashing of the Roys FFC. It should be noted that they signed okeydoke7 and the famed CURSE that he carried.

Meanwhile in Sin City, the Swamprats would fail to recapture any semblance of Season 20 form and the big name recruit SpudsLoveChild would disappear before the season even started. After 103-point Round 2 win against the Wonders, the Rats would show inconsistent form in Season 21, making it to the midway point of the season 4-4. However, 4 consecutive losses, 3 of which were hidings left them needing no room for error to make finals. They played off against the Dragons in the final round but were destroyed by a brilliant 21 hitout, 27 disposal, 5-goal performance from Hate who was also ironically the Swamprats' 'No. 1 Ticket Holder'.

In the Season 21 clash, it was a Close Contest for much of the game but the Swamprats were inaccurate but would pull away in the final quarter to win by 14-points - 15.21.111 to 15.7.97.

In Season 22, both teams would bounce back on the field, returning to finals action, starting the season with new captains and a stronger posting unit. The Swamprats brought in a couple of rookies in miggs and Far Kern who fit well into the spammy culture at the time, with Millky95 becoming the new Swamprats captain and the Demons bringing onboard RU_ as co-captain along with the recruitment of rookies Oddhawk and BRAB.

The Season 22, Round 2 match thread against the two sides was spicy with Miggs and Oddhawk throwing elbows at one another all week.

I did across this post in the match thread by me. Which if anything is a demonstration that the quality of my match thread contributions have only declined since my third season.

The Demons all live in relative anonymity so for those who haven't played them before, I'll have a read through the Demons chapter of S22 Sweet FA Player Bios as a reminder of who actually plays for them.

-- Mount Buller Demons --

Van_Dyke:
Tries hard but nothing he ever does works. Could've been the hero in the S20 Grand Final only to get bumped off the ball allowing the Furies to kick the sealer, then goes on to win the wooden spoon in S21. Despite his best efforts that season, he could only finish 3rd in the EKA, the third place EKA ribbon is something he proudly boasts about because he really hasn't achieved anything since. On the bright side, his career highlight was getting picked up by the Swamprats with Pick 4 in the Free Agent Draft... but it was unofficial. Bad luck Dyke.

RU_: The nice guy of the SFA who is perfectly content with being a perennial loser, which is why he stayed at Roys for a few seasons only to jump ship to another embarrassing basket-case of a side just when the Roys look to be turning the corner. He is now co-captain of the Demons because the Deesperados couldn't find anyone better and his current captaincy resume consists of stuffing up the teamsheet and getting suspended 1 week into the season. Other regular activities include infuriating players when posting close games and giving handjobs to the SFA admin.

Smartys Power: Is there a bigger faux tough guy in the SFA? Huffed and puffed about how great he was leaving spookism hanging before S20 ahead of the grand final and then ran out of breath after 10% of game time. He was benched for a debutant and never recalled onto the field. Under his first season as captain, the Demons lost all their good posters to Royals and inactivity and went on to win the wooden spoon. As an aside, he's a huge 1D and Justin Bieber fan.

sante: Daily routine involves working, telling everyone he's at work, getting home from work, working from home, sleeping after work, dreaming about work, sleepwalking to work, waking up at work, and repeating the cycle. There is more about him but he probably won't read this anyway as he is at work.

And that should be it.... Oh wait there's a subsection on the rest of these Demons players. Hmmm... well that's strange, all it shows is this:

In terms of the match, it was a low-scoring thriller with the Demons leading by 8-points going into 3QT. But they would be kept scoreless in the final term while 2-goals from Gray day sealed the victory for the Rats. Azarole had a chance to steal the game back for the Demons but the siren beat him.

The return matchup of Season 22 was a similarly high-paced match thread with an even better game. Another low-scoring affair with the scores level in the final moments.

4 : 23.22 {lHFF} - A bit of space for Stephen cRowe to utilise.
4 : 23.27 {lHFF} - Stephen cRowe dummy's the handpass and then takes a bounce.
4 : 23.32 {rHFF} - He involves Macca19 in the play.

4 : 24.04 {lHFF} - It might carry.
4 : 24.12 {lHFF} - That's a terrible miss.

Then this happens...

4 : 24.22 {FB} - Headless looking for a lead.
4 : 24.28 {FB} - ShaunDuggan monsters Headless.

4 : 24.34 {FF} - Gray Day sizes the options in front of him.
4 : 24.41 {FF} - Gray Day has a shot at goal.
4 : 24.47 {FF} - Didn't look good off the boot - a minor score.

And that kids, is why Headless refuses to play anywhere other than the interchange.

Following the preliminary final clash, both teams would fail to follow-up on strong performances in Season 20. At the conclusion of the previous season, the Demons would lose @Footypie32 to the Royals and @Eth would step down leaving @Smartys Power to be the new captain beginning of his redemption story - which would not exist because only more pain and suffering would await ol' mate Smartys Bench. It would be a miserable season for the Demons on and off the field as the posting was entirely carried by @Van_Dyke, @cats2rise (who had the horrific username Van_Power back then) and @cooney with next to no activity outside of those in the leadership group. ah fun times. I believe we were playing Headless on a wing for large portions of that season despite him being semi active as best

One could argue that was his best posting season quality-wise.

demons threads were beautiful that season, nice 8-10 pages. frankly the league hasn’t seen posting from a club as good that since
