They have the best youth academy in the country and will have a bucket load of money coming in over the next two windows if they sell their prized assets. Unless they completely stuff up hiring their next manager they will be mid-top half again for the next few seasons.

Was Moyes a fan of giving youth a chance at Everton? Could be a fairly decent option. The Brighton manager would be a risk. Poyet's end of season heroics shouldn't take away from some of the mess he got them into. Sherwood anyone? :p

Bale, Oxlade-Chamberlin, Walcott, Lallana, Schniederlin, Ward-Prowse, Shaw & Chambers have all come through the system down there long before Pochettino. I think they will be fine

Southampton have hit a ceiling. Won't get further without further investment, which they're not allowed to make.

You can build a top quality team without plunging hundreds of millions of pounds into transfer fees and wages you know.

Agreed. If they could hold their squad together there's nothing to say that with an extra year development for their youngsters that they could have been pushing for top 5. Won't happen now though.

If all they sell is Lallana & Shaw they can just use what they have coming through in Ward-Prowse and Chambers to replace them and still invest in getting better in all areas. It's the media hyping up a mass exodus of 6+ players I wouldn't imagine it being that great

Yes you can. But not a consistent top 4 team.

Like I said. Southampton have hit a ceiling. They can't legitimately expect to push on much from here IMO, and I expect a significant drop off next season.

Murat Yakin being linked. Would be good for him to have a go in a top league and could be another hidden gem of a manager for Southampton. Was the Basel manager that beat Chelsea and has done a good job there developing some top talents

Like I said. Southamptons have hit a ceiling.

No one said anything about consistent top 4 - although Cooldude is correct to cite Arsenal - but they came what, 8th this year? To say that's their ceiling is a bit inaccurate.

Arsenal has maintained top 4 for years with almost a negative net spend, at least before they signed Ozil

Its not just transfers, Arsenal pay more in wages than any club outside top 4 except United this year and probably Liverpool in years before.

Dont they have the same owner?

I thought they changed CEO or equivalent due to him exceeding the budget.

yeah they brought in some hockey guy, but it's been speculated for a while that katarina liebherr has zero interest in football and is just waiting for the correct time to sell and run

Ralph Krueger.

Luke Shaw will probably leave but im not that worried we have another killer left back coming through called matty targett anyway.

Lallana will stay he bleeds southampton.

for your sake i hope he does.

Cooldude. You have SM agreeing with you.

If thats not enouhh to convince you that you're wrong on this nothing will.

Ah one of Cooldude's favourite catchphrases..

For a club with such a great youth set up and the players it produces, you'd think they'd try really, really hard to get some long term stability in their first team set up wouldn't you?
